Re: cooling your tent or van

These are the reasons that I designed the unicooler to go inside the space with the air intake on only one side of the cooler. Indeed!! As a funny note, I had someone stop by our camp and look at my setup last year, and they told me the unicooler "won't work" because it was inside the yurt. :D No m...

What's your experience transporting them. I've never had a problem..... for most of the times I use my system mobile, it's a glass panel mounted to the roof of a toyota 4runner. I have been, (at the speed limit, of course).... ;) down the highway from MA to DE and back, and had no problems. It is c...

How did you clean them? I have thin film panels. I picked up half an amp before and after cleaning. I just started doing it every day. Honestly? just simple green's blue formula and paper towels. (I found out after the first time that if I tried using normal towels, I'd blow through them faster tha...

Re: cooling your tent or van

To motskyroonmatick: I've done a number of small-scale/portable solar systems.... I'd definitely recommend having a battery system in-line. Panels are very finicky, and often you can get clouds (or dust storms) even in the hottest part of the day. But, regardless of which way you go, on playa you wi...

Re: cooling your tent or van

My unicooler based on the trash can has been pretty much built. Just need to do a little wiring, and I'll test it out in the morning. Also need to build out a little bit so that it sits flush against the air intake on the inside wall of the yurt. Pics, if interested: http://s11.photobucket.com/album...

Re: cooling your tent or van

I managed to get one of those trash cans you mentioned, Figjam, and was going to use that for my unicooler, but I may just build a box. The more I look at it, the amount of effort to build out wood to make that sit flush to a yurt wall is going to be as much effort as just getting the materials from...

Weird. I've never tried calling them... but did just order a second pump to build the unicooler, and got it in 4 days flat. Same with my first order, so I'll vouch for their shipping/product.... Never tried communicating with them, however. EDIT: Actually, it was 3 days, and not even business days. ...

Okay.
We just built a 4 piece hinged H13 today. Lot of planning, but it went together great!

The 4 pieces (2 wall, 2 roof) fold into a 4x8 stack for travel, and it's nice inside! (especially for us over 6 foot folks)

that Sunforce actually looks like the same panel they use in the HF 45watt kit, which is on sale for $170. Do you think it would be worthwhile to invest in a solar trickle charger to keep hooked up to the Deep Cycle AGM battery to be sure that the battery will last all week? Re: cooling your tent or van

It has to be a pressure thing. Air pressure from my fan is 17.74. How are you measuring? I'd be curious to measure with this... I checked my bucket, and can't detect any reduction in air flow, with or without the pipe. But you're using a single fan the size of the pipe, yes? I was thinking of tryin...

Ok, I got it now, don't change anything, just rebolt the fans to the outside of the lid and see if that helps. 8) Yeah, sorry about that, I just edited my original post to clarify.... despite how it looks in the picture, there are a couple inches between the fans and the circular hole in the bottom...
