Re: BLM Officer Car and Personal Searches: how to respond?

Great replies. I have never had a "bad" encounter with an LEO (as an adult anyway) and a huge part of that is attitude. Be friendly, say yes sir and no sir. Don't argue about anything, don't contradict or try to talk your way out of anything. It's really very simple, the hard part is to avoid getti...

Re: Insultation/reflection questions

yargh, then everything changes again, that's why! Plus box truck won't fit under shade structure. Also, cargo van is not a car. It's got less windows and it's much bigger inside. It's in between the two.

Re: Insultation/reflection questions

Thanks Badger, although many here sing the praises of the swamp cooler. We're bringing a generator and lots of water this trip, but I don't know how much is "enough" for this. And we're trying to keep the dust out of our little sleeping nest so I really don't want wide open doors/windows if I can he...

Insultation/reflection questions

I'm sleeping in a rented cargo van. I've read posts that recommend using Reflectix material, and one person that just used aluminum foil inside. So I guess I'd put this on my roof on my windows (provided the reflection doesn't bother neighbors), right? How best to affix it? That tape you savvy hexay...

So long as BBadger can hop over, go through your things and watch you change clothes you should be fine!

Re: posts, how far apart do they need to be?

I know I'm asking a lot of idiotic questions. We'd rather steer people around to the front and sides. This is my/our first time trying to go beyond just camping and setting up a really cool communal area. Short of a theme camp, but just something really awesome for our neighbors on the block-- loung...

Re: posts, how far apart do they need to be?

Points taken, all. Our plan is to be open and welcoming and actually we plan to be feeding just about anyone and everyone who wants to come. But we have designed a "privy area" along the back and just want to steer people around that. The front and most of the sides will be open. No RV and no segway...

Re: posts, how far apart do they need to be?

That's very helpful, thanks! At 15 ft apart, I wouldn't require as many as I feared. And so you are endorsing the yardgard t-post, then?

posts, how far apart do they need to be?

Hello chums, We're going to surround the rearmost area of our camp with snow fence, four feet high. Someone told me to use t-posts, from home depot. Downsides: green and white-- ugly! $5.25 each-- Not cheap! Where can I get something good to use for posts, and hopefully something that doesn't requir...

TARP zomg

I thought I had a simple item on my checklist for my flooring-- painter's tarp. But holy moley there's a million kinds of tarp out there with a price range to match. My wife, the artiste with a vision, is hoping for off-white or tan-colored tarp. Does it matter if it's 10-oz. tarp or 14-oz. tarp? Is...

Is a hexayurt really a sound amplifier?

I am not doing the hexayurt this year, however I might do it for 2012. While reading up on it, I have read a couple of complaints that they are actually quite noisy inside. One person complained that the bass from a nearby sound system actually seemed amplified inside the yurt. I was wondering if yo...

Re: which would you use for your camp shelter?

Hah well I can't speak for everyone, but I know a lot of us have been "the dumbass in the tent with no shade" before. Your campmates clearly had a lot of confidence in the carport with heavy walls! I'm already committed to my shade structure, however.

Re: Arrrgh! Can't...find...thread...

I do appreciate the ling and while that has some useful info, the post I seek was made by someone who specifically rented a cargo van and not a truck with her husband! I'm wondering now if maybe it was on Tribe. Still, that was some useful reading. Actually has me wondering if I should get a box tru...

Re: Exp. RVers: Suggestions for House rules for renting an R

tl;dr so sorry if I'm repeating advice: I took an RV one year and probably won't again for many reasons I won't go into here. But a word of caution-- we thought we'd stack a bunch of gear in the shower. Granted this thing was pretty old, but the weight or (perhaps the shape of a box?) apparently cra...

Re: Let's play Hide the Generator

Thanks trishntek. I was starting to do a bit of handwringing over this but then I realized I can structure my camp so that there will be plenty of natural "baffles". between it and other campers.

Thanks for the helpful replies, all!

Arrrgh! Can't...find...thread...

Some thoughtful woman wrote a bit on going to Burning Man every year in a cargo van and sleeping inside. Great tips. I'm planning to do the same this year.

But I didn't bookmark it. Now I've searched but I can't find it! Anyone remember seeing it?

Re: Advice for Burnign Man newbs V 2.0

Bring toilet paper! Folks vocally expressed envy as I headed to the potties last year, roll in hand. Note that angry bitter old burners may yell at you for your crimes of paper. It's a little known fact but these twoo buhnahs will offer your genitals a tongue bath after, as a way to prevent the crue...

Re: which would you use for your camp shelter?

I thought I should update you friendlies. I went with the friendly burner selling the "Black Rock Shade Kits". For one thing, I'm supporting his many awesome Burning Man projects and I've seen enough of his installations and heard from enough burners to feel good about it. He said the shade structur...
