Re: Not Going to Burning Man at Burning Man

At the end of my second year, a wise and crusty old burner in my camp took me aside. He told me "The first couple Burns, you come for the spectacle. After that, you come for the people you love." 10 years later, it's still true.

Epiazza,

As a fellow New Yorker, put your tools in checked baggage. You'll have no problem.

Re: New burners from the East Coast need logistics advice

Not sure where you are on the East Coast, if NYC is too much of a drive, but Boston, Philadelphia and< I believe, DC have containers as well.

Re: Mesh on my tent

Last year, I was stuck with the same problem. I covered the mesh with a thrift store sheet, using safety pins to hold the sheet to the mesh. Put the sheet on the outside of the mesh, use a pin every few inches, right at the edge of the mesh. I had some dust leaks after I first put it on, but added p...

Re: Offering help making a costume in NYC

Ro113,
Since you're in NYC, drop by the weekly NYC Happy Hour on Wednesday evenings and meet people from the NY Burner community. You'll find quite a few people willing ti accept your help. Double Down Saloon, 14 Ave A. Cheap drinks til 8, the crowd starts around 630 and can go til midnight.

Did you use Bus to Flame?

And if so, what was your experience? I've heard some bad reports from friends, wondering what others experience was.

Re: Shower Evap Ponds during the windstorm

Illy;

We build it 8x24 because 2x4's are 8 feet long, and the plastic sheet at Home depot comes 10x 25 feet.

Re: Shower Evap Ponds during the windstorm

Our evaporation pond is 8 feet by 24, wood and plastic sheet. In the last 3 years, dust hasn't been a problem for us at all. With a little attention during the week, and stopping showers entirely on Sunday afternoon, we haven't had to pack out any gray water yet. The plastic sheet with the dried soa...

Re: The Black Rock Railroad

Intermodal shipping delivered to the Playa is already happening. NYContainer Camp ran 3 containers from NYC to 715 and C this year, returning them to New York this Saturday. Other groups are doing the same. The containers are trucked from wherever you load to a local railyard, then go by rail to Ren...
