Re: The Crypto Lotus
Aww, thanks! I've been working with an amazing welder this year and we're starting to mull over what it would take to make a make a permanent, metal version of the lotus together. I've started making art that lets people participate with mobile devices and we might do something like that with the lo...

Re: The Crypto Lotus
I was never really able to fully track down the issue. It was some sort of floating ground, but I was able to get the LEDs to mostly play nice by running some extra wires to a grounding stake. The Raspberry Pi never had a problem, it was just the LEDs. Also, I was going 12v DC straight to 5v DC via ...

Re: The Crypto Lotus
Also, if anyone has ANY pictures of the lotus on the playa I'd LOVE to see them. Our camp photographer never made it over to the lotus at night.

Re: The Crypto Lotus
Aww thanks!
Just curious, what do you mean by "didn't appear to be working correctly"? While it was a bit "twitchy" due to a grounding issue I was never able to sort out, it did work correctly Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights as far as I know (as in each time I visited it).

Re: The Crypto Lotus
I just posted this to the Facebook page, but I wanted to share here as well for anyone who followed along here: First, the headline - the Crypto Lotus was successfully deployed in all its glory at Burning Man 2013! Success! It sure wasn't easy though! If you're interested in hearing how it all went,...

In case anyone is interested in following along, I did get a couple of art grants from regional burns (Playa Del Fuego and Lakes of Fire) and updates are coming hot and heavy now (pretty much nightly) on the Crypt Lotus' Facebook page

Re: The Crypto Lotus Fundraiser
Thank you so much everyone! :D :D :D Since we're done so early I tossed up a new stretch goal of $4,500. That little bit more will be enough to help us bring the lotus to another event this year and if we're able to reach it then all backers over $5 will get a 3" custom embroidered Crypto Lotus patc...

Re: The Crypto Lotus
Well, most recent detail is we didn't get an art grant. :? BUT, we do have a few more outstanding grant applications with other organizations, so here's hoping we're a bit luckier with those. In the meantime, we decided to try to Kickstarter this sucker and the plan is to open it up next week. There...

The Crypto Lotus
Hi everyone! Some of you may have seen my BlitterBike project at the burn last year and I'm currently gearing up to try to get my new project out to a few regional burns and the big one as well. So... what is the Crypto Lotus? The Sacred Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), is a beautiful plant and the touch p...

Re: Project: Blitter Bike
At the end of the week I was fully prepared to never do a damn thing with the BlitterBike ever again. I was done.
Now that I've been home a few days I'm noticing that I'm thinking about ways I could improve the damn thing! I have this nasty suspicion it will, in fact, be out there again...

Re: Project: Blitter Bike
Soooo....
Anyone see or interact with the BlitterBike out there? I took it it out every night except for one when I was too... um, disoriented to do so safely.

Re: Project: Blitter Bike
Well... as neat and tidy as that crate looks, it's a giant heavy asshole.
It's got in it a bike trailer, the wood superstructure, the electronics, my kodiak tent, two metal cots, a swamp cooler, etc, etc.
It's easily 300lbs and fits fine... in the back of a full sized pickup, minimum.

Re: Project: Blitter Bike
daft - the microcontroller running the BlitterBike is actually a very small ARM-based linux computer. The big reason I couldn't use an off-the-shelf solution like what you suggest is because of the power draw (as you indicate) and the fact that I'd actually need TWO of them to make it dual sided. Tr...

Here's the BlitterBike in action at Lakes of Fire in June: I'm in the process right now of packing everything up and shipping it to the playa. It goes on the truck this weekend! I'm going to be camped at 9:1...

Re: Project: Blitter Bike
Thanks!
For Sonic I do, in fact, currently have four states - tapping his foot, jogging, running, and spinning. I'd love to do the skid stop, and if I have time I'll try. One thing I discovered last night was that stopping a 120lb trailer really isn't something you can do that quickly anyways!
