Re: ORPHAN / VIRGIN CAMP - Seeking 10 new members
ANNOUNCEMENT : The main Orphan / Endorphin Camp is now FULL. HOWEVER, as in 2011 we actively encourage the formation of second, third and maybe this year even fourth spin-off Orphan camps. In 2011, we had Orphan / Endorphin, Orphan 2 and Orphan 3 camps. All it takes is for a couple of people to step...

ORPHAN / VIRGIN CAMP - Seeking 10 new members
Recruiting for an Orphan / Virgin Camp. We have ten places still available, out of a camp of approx 50. ORPHAN / ENDORPHIN CAMP 2012 This is a camp for loners who don't want to be totally alone. Either you couldn’t talk anyone into going with you, or your friends have ditched, or couldn’t get a tick...

Re: How much should I REALLY bring?
I forgot a few things : - Footwear. This depends on how tough your feet are. The best advice is to wear some sort of combat boot. HOWEVER, whatever you wear must be comfortable! I bring about 15 pairs of thin ankle socks. Very thin. Just enough for the boots to be comfy. I also wear flip-flops and t...

Re: How much should I REALLY bring?
There is a LOT of really good advice here. I live in the UK, so come to the playa by plane to San Fran. I'm an old crusty pervert, and I've camped in some very extreme climates over the years. Here are some pointers from my own experience : - Rent a bike. Either in Reno or out on the playa itself. H...

All of the big festivals will be over for the year. I'd suggest hopping in your car and heading down Hwy 395, taking in the sights along the way. It is an amazing route. You can go to Yosemite, Devils Postpile, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, etc. I could go on and on. ...

Hi guys :) My name is Deathstroke Regina Chester Jefff Dave Dum Dee Dum Tumblepot, but feel free to call me anything! I'm a tunnelling engineer apprentice from England. Currently a burning man virgin from England, but hope to rectify that this year if I can find my way across the pond. I only heard...

Let's not forget that the West was first colonized by the Spanish and the Portuguese, and that until very recently was part of Mexico. And the name California is in fact Muslim. Just chewing the cud n'all!

Ha! I was looking at the mirrored helmet too! Looking for a source of tiny mirrors ....tamarakay wrote:I'd say someone on the design team has been to BRC lol. Anyway, I'd take any one of those costumes (minus feathers of course). I'm loving the mirrored hat/helmut thing.

I totally agree with the below. I just have a hard time resolving the coexistence of profiteering from pay to play and a primarily volunteer workforce. In my experience – the BRC volunteer thing works like this: I do something good – You do something good. We create something better together for eac...

Following up on Orphan Camps. I help organize this one : “ORPHANS TOO” CAMP - VIRGIN FRIENDLY!! Orphans Too is an offshoot camp of the Orphan/Endorphin mothership. Orphans Too spontaneously dragged itself out of the playa dust in 2011, after the mothership burned too brightly! … i.e. got full. This ...

Hiya Janki! I'm just going to follow up on Zeke's post above. I was a virgin burner last year (I live in the UK). I decided in about May last year that I was going to camp alone (just one of me). The reason was that I did not know whether I would like the people in the theme camp that I might choose...

Oh for crying out loud!!!! STOP please! 1. Can we all PLEASE remember that this is only a fix for this year, 2012. The BMORG and the community need to work together to design a system for next year (2013) that we can all buy-in to. Distributing the 10,000 tickets to the core projects is NOT setting ...

From another thread : I'm losing the will to live .... I'm going outside to scream and burn something!! The lottery system wasn't the biggest problem. Re: Why I'm a lottery defender.
I'd be more inclined to say a block of tickets granted to large art installations, moreso than theme camps. Some theme camps are more welcoming than others, so choosing would be difficult. @AntiM : I would agree. (1) Presale draw : Bump up the price and number even more - 10,000 tickets @ $500. Thi...

Just posted this on FB ... for what it's worth ... "There are a number of different issues here, and it’s really important to have some clarity about what they are : 1. Re: 2012 Theme Camps - will you make it this year?
I could not agree with this more .... excellent post! The 1.7 number quoted was the average number of tickets order per request, i.e., if 100 people ordered tickets, then 70 ordered 2 tickets and 30 ordered 1 ticket, i.e., 70*2 + 30 = 170/100 = 1.7. That number in no way told us how many ticket requ...

Re: Around the globe to find the light
The Green Tortoise hostel in San Francisco has bus trips to Burning Man, and provide food, water & transportation from SF (fly in a day early with 1/2 your stuff and shop for a few things more). They might have shade for their campers--I recommend asking them--but you definitely need your own tent....
