Re: Ticket Ethics (A true story)
Ehhh... Q. You had your ticket, sounds like you were still bargaining with her to buy her ticket !? Or just suggesting she drop her price and sell it elsewhere ? Just curious.... Yeah, I was just suggesting she drop her price to move it. The fact is she'd already sold another ticket on eBay (for wh...

Ticket Ethics (A true story)
Hey all, This year has been very instructive in terms of ticket ethics for me (and others, I'm sure). I wanted to tell a quick story and let other Burners weigh in on the ethics of how I handled the situation. So I was somebody who didn't get a ticket in the lottery and initially thought, "Okay, thi...

Re: Seeking advice for transporting hexayurt on roof on carg
Hey, I transported a folding 8" hexayurt on the top of a rental Ford last year. I pray your rental is not a Ford, it was a 2010 or 11 model year and the playa dust killed the engine immediately. Anyway, this is how I did it: 1. Fold up hexayurt in nice tight package 2. Securely wrap with rope and bl...

Re: Maid Marian talks about ticket issues on the Burning Blo
So, then you WERE given a chance, just like everyone else who entered the lottery.. edit: but you wanted it tilted in your favor? No. I wanted 1 entry for 1 ticket. Not 12 entries for 1 ticket, as I saw many people, including my friends, do. I'm not going to argue this point with you beyond this po...

Re: Romantic Relationship issues with 2012 Burn
I will just add that 2011 was my "relationship Burn" and it was brutal and I do mean brutal.
And I was prepared, had good communication, worked hard at it, did everything right.
Even when you do everything "right", it still can -- and probably will -- kick your ass.
Good luck.

Re: Maid Marian talks about ticket issues on the Burning Blo
i guess some of the community would have been happier if the longtime burners got first dibs before newcomers from the beginning (in a mad first come first serve rush) I would have been happier if I had gotten an even chance to get my single ticket. Unlike what happened, in which I was placed in a ...

This is what I read: Blah blah blah we're listening, we promise Blah blah blah in two weeks we'll have something more Blah blah blah We failed to anticipate this even though anyone who's ever attended a Psych 101 or Econ 101 class and can rub two brain cells together saw this coming Blah blah blah T...

Re: John Law is laughing his mother fucking ass off right no
It took a little longer than he said it would, but it has happened. Good luck to all who go this year. I'm sure you will meet some really cool people in Center Camp this year. I guess the Playa needs an enema. This will be the year. I have been going since 96 (I missed 2003;2010). It has changed al...

Re: C'mon now........
A buddy of mine just gave up completely. He's going to be pleasantly surprised when I find a ticket for him (after I find tickets for everyone else and make sure he gets his last because he's being a whiny whinertons) Do you have $10-15k lined up to purchase all these tickets from all the scalpers?...

Re: Ticket fiasco reaction from the LLC
Yeah, I'd go for some sort of staggering. It's an idea at least. Still: Goodell emphasized that the burner ethos calls for people to only sell tickets for face value – which is $240-390 for the 40,000 tickets going out next week – and she said she believes there will be enough tickets to satisfy dem...

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
This new system is fair to no one. I'm now wondering if the BMORG did this deliberately, having guessed that it would absolutely shatter the legacy of big, planned theme camps and big art projects. It sounds a little crazy, but maybe crazy like a fox: do a little creative destruction on your own ev...

If the event is going to get any bigger, we need a bigger road. Does the BMORG (or do we) want to fund that, directly or indirectly?tattoogoddess wrote:PLEASEEEEE Environmental Impact Statement come out 150% positive so we can up the cap on the land!! I want my friends to go

Re: Confession: I'm sorry I defended the stupid ticket lotte
I'm sorry if you feel the need to dismiss this as "nonsense." If you like root beer or chilled absinthe drinks in the heat of the day, you might be fucked this year 'cause we're not sure it's worth it if there's this much bullshit and chaos involved just to give them hundreds of dollars to come to ...

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
I put in for 2 390 tickets and receive none. Here are my predictions for 2012: - Fewer elaborate theme camps - Fewer big, elaborate art projects - More Birgins - More rich "toursists" - A huge collective shoulder shrug from the Birgins and especially the rich folks, who all go, "What was everyone ta...

Hi,
I am your tea man. I can bring a huge variety of tea to the playa and pour in traditional tea ceremony style all night long.
Healthy caffeine. Yeah.
You can email me at a playahanjin at gmail if you're interested.

My Burning Man Retrospective
Hello all, I've just finished writing up my thoughts on the last two Burns. I know I'm a baby compared to some old timers here. . . but I've put a lot of effort into thinking and writing about the principles behind Burning Man, and I'd love some feedback. The article is up on my blog, here: http://w...

Re: HexaYurts
Hello all, On a different topic. Our rental car situation has gone south and I'm now faced with a dilemma: I can accept the vehicle they give me, but in all likelihood, it won't have a roof rack. Is it a dumb idea to strap the hexayurt, bareback, to the top of a rental? I don't have a very high risk...

What do I do with my bacon grease?
Total newb question even though this is my sophomore year. I will be actually cooking this year (had an RV last year). Cooking bacon for breakfast a few days (of course). Bacon grease is lovely and delicious but doesn't evaporate. What do folks do with it? Cook eggs in it? Mop it up with an English ...

Re: What to do with a yurt post-burn
Hey Connie, Are you looking to pick up a hexayurt? Because I'm considering selling mine after the burn (it's the first I've built). It might not be the best yurt ever, but would you be interested in buying / receiving as donation? If so maybe we could arrange a stop-by during the event and potential...

Re: Hello, I am playa hanjin
I have read the Relationship Survival Guide. . . and made her read it too. I'm pretty confident we'll get along just fine. Thanks for the perspective on 3" panels, also. . . my gf and I were staring at them in Home Depot going, "really? Do we really want to strap a 3" thick package to the top of our...

Hello, I am playa hanjin
. . . but you can call me hanjin. I am a 28 year old dude from Portland, OR and 2011 will be my sophomore burn. 2010 changed my life (that happens, right?) As way of introduction I'd like to share my plans for 2012 and beyond. The event starts in 15 days, but already I have ideas for how I want to d...
