Be prepared to take your shade down durinng a dust storm.
Or perhaps anchor it to your vehicle when you set up.
Good luck!

Re: EZ Up Canopies
I much prefer the Car Port style shade structures (like the "Costco Car Ports"), Sturdy 1 1/4 inch poles. As long as these beasts are tied down correctly they will withstand almost anything. Unfortunately these things also weigh a fair bit. Solid design = decent weight... The carports are rock soli...

100th Monkey Camp looking for Bay Area campmates
100th Monkey Camp has had a bit of fallout, as always happens, and we are looking for a few good campers to join us. We need friendly, open people who truly want to give back to the communal good. While we have several spots open, we are in serious need of 3 campers whose schedule will allow them to...

Sadly the drum camp did not come together. Our efforts are now focused on the 100th Monkey Camp.
But we will have drums, come play with us!

Re: Tickets in the mail !
QUESTION! I am about to buy a Craigslist ticket and I am a little bit sketched out. what do i look for when buying a ticket? They said it was shipped through FedEx --- were they actually sent out with USPS? How easy it for scalpers to make fake tickets? Should I ask for a confirmation number or wha...

I plan on taking my camera gear as well. My understanding is that sunrise is beautiful, so would want to be up for that at least twice. So many things to do... so little time. Guess getting the sleep will take some discipline. Boo. The nature of the playa is very hard on cameras. Place it in a zipl...

OK, I understand the electric energy, I feel it too! I have been checking my email looking for that tracking number, waiting for the mail lady. But math? Really?? Take a deep breath, the event is not until August, for goodness sake. No one at BM is working any slower than necessary, it's s a big job...

Do not worry, there is LOTS of room. Pick a spot and then be around for a day or so to speak with any new neighbors about generator noise and stereos, just to make sure your all on the same page. Remember your not dealing with minimum wage parking attendants, your dealing with neighbors and friends....

Re: If last year was your first year, take heed!
What is this thermal blanketing you mentioned? I've bought only the cheapest ratcheting tie downs from Harbor Freight (orange ones). We used Harbor Freight orange ratchet ties one year, 2010, and every one if them failed. The nylon frayed anywhere it touched anything else, including their own conne...

Re: If last year was your first year, take heed!
Personally I use the 10' x 20' carport tents, usually 2' and good quality ratchet ties to rebar. Use 3' rebar, and pound down to leave about 16" above ground. Be certain to cover rebar tips to prevent accidental injury late at night. I use a porous wall fabric, usually a thermal type blanket so the ...

If last year was your first year, take heed!
I ran into a lovely gentleman last year who was there to lay the groundwork for his large group to come this year. I asked him what he thought so far...he was quiet for a moment and then said "you people really overbuild!". Of course after we laughed for several minutes we explained to him the amazi...

Re: Theme Camp Question
Put a post in the theme camp area announcing your camp and asking for storytellers. The make signs for center camp and the various public billboards. In my experience the closer we get to the event the more people come on eplaya and look for ways to participate. I might also suggest posting on the v...

Re: Theme Camp Question
1. Is it hard to get other people to perform in a theme camp? I'm performing, but I'd like some variety. It depends on what yo mean by perform. You can always drag someone off the street to share a story. If yu want a rehearsed theatrical performance you should arrange campers before the event. 2. D...

THe funny thing about food on the playa is you never know which you will be. One group eats everything they touch, and the o ther has no appetite. I suggest one "real" meal a day, soups and stews are great and easy to throw rogeather. Then lots of nuts, cereal bars, peanut butter and GORP (trail mix...

100'th Monkey Camp welcomes new campmates
This year we reprise the 2008 very successful theme camp, the 100'th Monkey Camp. Based on the writing of Ken Kesey in his book by the same name, we accept the fact that there is a universal conciousness. Our task at the 100'th Monkey Camp is to collect and share information to feed that universal c...

We seek donations of percussion instruments of all kinds to allow as many to participate as possible. Any donati...
