Re: Survival Guide for College Students Missing First Week?
I tried contacting as many of my professors as possible a couple of weeks before the burn. I went to a small liberal arts college so getting a hold of most of them wasn't a problem. The others I just left voicemails for and also made sure to contact my school to let them know I'd be missing the 1st ...

Re: Official "Awarded Tickets" Thread
Don't know if this was already posted, but the ticketing fiasco was written about in the SF Bay Guardian yesterday with Marian Goodell responding to the community. Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
Man, what a bummer! No dice for me, my husband, and 6 friends and counting. This would be my 6th year in attendance since 2000 and the year I was planning an art installation with a friend who's a virgin (she also didn't get a ticket). It really stings! I've been left playing the waiting game. I've ...

Thanks for the tip on keeping the pasta and sauce separate, I didn't do that. I was also using brown rice pasta which has a little different texture. I forgot to mention that I also put water in a freezer zip lock, double bagged it and froze it before we left. That stayed frozen most of the week. I ...

Thanks everyone for the advice. The dry ice/ ice cooler/ frozen bottle method worked perfectly. Here's what I did: 82 Qt Coleman Xtreme 6 day cooler for dry ice. 40 lbs. dry ice wrapped in brown paper bags and duct taped. 3 large frozen water bottles. Igloo 150 Qt 7-day cooler for regular ice (we di...

Tent looks good to me. I'd think something that has less ventilation would be better, but then again I like affixing sheets over the exposed mesh top of the tent to minimize dust inside. I'd think with all the wind out there, you'd get adequate airflow regardless. I'd think it'd be more of a concern...

When I took cooking classes, we discussed what freezes well and what doesn't. Here's a list of what I learned that freezes well. Of course it's not exhaustive but if you're thinking of freezing items and bringing them out on dry ice, it's a start. - -Cooked chicken -Turkey -Chili -Stew -Soups -Curri...

Call me a coffee snob but I'd way rather drink tea than instant coffee. Instant really shouldn't even be allowed to call itself coffee. BLECH!!! Nescafe is the cappuccino of overseas, and I had my fair share of it traveling. No thanks. I think I'm burned out. :P I brought out my plastic french press...

I don't think it gets hot enough out there to blow up the cans. They won't blow up from just laying around in the shade, even in the heat of the day. I don't think they'd even blow up if left in the sun in the middle of the day. If you're worried, just put it in the shade, and put into cooler when y...

I'm going to buy the Coleman Xtreme 6 day cooler this weekend. It seems to make sense from everything I've read here and elsewhere on the internet. Now I'm wondering what sizes to get. We're going to buy two- one for the dry ice and the other for just the ice. Since the 6 day ones are kind of pricey...

I've used the same Coleman air mattress for years out there with no problems, other than it losing air daily. As long as it got pumped up every night it was fine. It did lose air overnight but never put us on the ground. What I didn't like about it was how low it was to the ground. This year I bough...

Also, Quinoa, the super grain which is high in protein and nutrient dense may also be something to consider. It's easier and faster to make than rice. (It's cheap at Trader Joes). I personally like this quinoa, black bean, and corn recipe. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Quinoa-and-Black-Beans/Detail.a...

My fiance is also gluten-free. We are pre-cooking most of our meals, vacuum sealing them, putting them on dry ice, & bringing them out. However, I wouldn't recommend that for your first time. Sprouts Farmer's Markets have a WIDE selection of gluten free products (more than Trader Joes). They have st...

Wow, thank you all for the advice. It may just come down to trial and error but I'm glad people have brought similar structures out there and made it work. It will work. We had a Coleman 12'x15' last year in the whiteouts and it stood all week just fine. Get 6' 3/8" Rebar for each pole, bend the reb...

bdeywoo- Was the one brought out a Coleman one similar to this one? And what part of it got taken down? Did the top loosen and fly off, did the poles collapse, or did the lines loosen? Maybe all of the above? I assume you tightened it daily after it collapsed. What parts did you tighten? My friend h...

We used gallon jugs of water frozen, plus 2L bottles, both had drinking water in them, as the 2L melted we'd take a partially frozen one out and carry round the playa to drink. All frozen food was vacuum sealed so when we did add crushed ice to the cooler to really really really get the brewski's c...

Coleman Geosport Shade Structure - your advice?
I recently scored a great deal on two Coleman Geosport Shade structures from Craigslist. This is what it looks like- http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-15-GeoSport-Shade/dp/B0009PUTIO They were both unused. I got them for $75, for both! It was a screamin' deal considering they're $150 each from Amazon. M...

Great advice! I didn't even think of that. I went out and looked just now and unfortunately, there's no markings on it whatsoever indicating the business name. The company that made them was really small and sold only this shade structure on their website. It was literally like a burner decided to m...

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/6306/dscf0220q.jpg This is driving me nuts!!! I can't find the instructions to my shade structure shown in this picture. You have to read the story I posted to understand the severity of what happened. It wasn't just that a tire blew out. An excerpt from it reads: " She and Aguilar each sued U-Haul, contending that a worn tire on the trailer suddenly deflated, causing the trailer and the Explorer to veer to the left. ...
