Re: What time would you leave from salt lake City?

... Might be a bit different if you are driving an RV, of course. It most certainly can. It's not necesarily walk-in-the-park driving either. You might find yourself driving with the wheel at 12:00 turned to 10:00 or 2:00, just to have the RV drive straight on the road with the side wind hitting it...

Re: Mist Shower: minimal water use

The take-away I'd intended was the minimal water use benefit of a "misting head". I don't know how that compares with the spray out of your pump-up garden sprayer. I've seen some that would mist, but others that their nozzle would only spray, wide through narrow. That said, the "misting head" photos...

Mist Shower: minimal water use

Here's two related links regarding the Mist Shower. https://www.lowtechmagazine.com/2019/10/mist-showers-sustainable-decadence.html http://oddemulsion.com/minwater.html The first makes reference to a Portable Mist Shower, which could be paired with the solar-heated black-bag hanging hot water makers...

Re: Using a Mini Fridge in a tent?

I'm trying to make a decision whether or not to get a mini fridge or just a super cold regular Igloo-type cooler for my future van. The fridge option has benefits that it doesn't need ice to stay cold. However, since it needs to run 24/7, power consumption will drain any batteries quicker. With the...

Re: Fireproofing Shade Sturctures

I only remember the part where the colour of the Hindenburg skin burning was attributed to a thermite burn due to the aluminum in the skin. I've no idea what the binder was nor of other components. I get nervous whenever there's an abundance of Al and O.

Re: Fireproofing Shade Sturctures

So far my searching indicates that Aluminet is not fire retardant... Don't want to light mine on fire to confirm. Does anyone have insights? Not only is it not fire retardant in any way, HDPE is classified as highly flammable. Aluminet is aluminized thin-film HDPE, woven into a cloth. Any chance of...

Re: Composting Toilets

FWIW. Searched ePlaya to see if I could find info on Portos since we had issues this year with ours and found this post. I believe they were a verified OSS vendor since I heard there was a public bank of them outside out 10:00 and our well known neighbors had a 2 Porto unit and was I able to experi...

Re: Cost Preparation

Flying is fast, but it limits what you can bring - and what you can take back. So if you drop-shipped to Reno, you ship it or gift it. Not really economical. I've gone expensive in a 30' RV, with a bike, bike trailer/cooler, and I've gone with a borrowed cot, a sleeping bag, pillow, tarp wrapped ove...

I don't know if this is what was intended, but I've always thought of the display as: an interesting way to remind those who know of the Holocaust, and to get the attention of any who somehow don't. Re: Playa safe Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detector

Without knowing a lot more details about that incident's source of CO, we're kinda in the dark. The RV/camper world seems to be concerned about not enough O2, which is 'detected'/indicated by too much CO2. I'd think the first step for detection would be to have independent detectors, so a failure in...

I don’t think I’ve ever taken a squat without unloading the bladder at the same time. That's the point of the design in the link. As long as you're sitting, it's got a 'hidden' urine trap.
