Re: cooling your tent or van

For an RV, you get outstandingly less heat by covering the glass and roof vents/skylights/etc. with Reflectix. Find the RV tips thread. With that done, you'll use a lot less A/C, and you're in the range for a swamp-cooler to work. Sitting a swamp-cooler on the ground is doable, but a pain to duct an...

Re: Need a ride BRC to Reno airport 8/31 LATE

Your Burning Since tells me I shouldn't have to warn you, but just in case. The eplaya consensus tends to be that if your flight is on one day, you could be leaving BRC for Reno the day before, to ensure you do get there. 7am in Reno (at Airport?) is very early. Any number of delays could screw you:...

Re: Smaller Misting System: Pump or Bucket Top?

Misting on the playa is pretty special. I even like a simple hand-pump, on me, or in the air and let the chilled mist drift back on me or walk through it. Without knowing if you want to cool a large space, or just provide a smaller area of some relief or a treat, note that some people have taken the...

Re: Anyone ever try the allergy in-nostril filters?

Shrug, I didn't look it up but; I think of it this way. Most of the pollen people are allergic to is microscopic and can't be seen with the naked eye. You can totally see playa dust. Therefore, it is bigger and would be filtered. Nice thoughts. However, 65% of playa soil is smaller than the smalles...

Re: Securing shade to vehicles

I don't like the pipe-insulation for that. Too soft, compresses too much, doesn't maintain its clearance, tears too easily. The pool noodles I get are significantly more robust than pipe-insulation: keep way more of their 'loft' under load, resist tearing (even when abused some). So far from the one...

Re: Extended monkey hut

The surface material of the hut does absorb heat. The wind moving on the outside, and the inside , is what removes that heat. That's long length for that heated air to move before it escapes, and a long section that's downwind at a given time to not be getting fresh air with which to remove the heat...

I’ve heard ... . Eventually someone will perform some type of tests so that ppl aren’t buying 14” long lags when they may only need 8”. Depends on the year: wind, & soil conditions . The issues isn't what wind load a given length will hold, but what conditions cycled the playa surface through the s...

Any dust on you or in the air while in use, and you're going to be introducing playa bacteria, micro aqua-fauna dead body parts (and possibly eggs) and droppings from migratory water-fowl.
It would take quite the protocol of showers, path to tub, etc..
