Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
Hey there!!! I also have the same lights as you only they give off 5amps. but I was curious if 8 AA batteries would handle that strip light with a sound sensitive ir remote control with it? The 8AA's would power it just fine, the sound sensitivity might actually help them last longer if its flashin...

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
It's a complete myth. Maybe a dollar store would sell off brand D cells with less capacity. Or maybe if you get a rechargeable battery that's a possibility. But if you go get a decent set of alkaline D cells, you're getting 15 amp-hours no problem. I've used them for LED power packs and portable sp...

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
I didn't know that about the D batteries not really being any more powerful than AAs. Out of curiosity I think I'll do a few performance tests myself! That's just what I came across, so I don't know how accurate it is, although everything on the internet is true, so.. If you do some testing, please...

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
Tested the lights last night with the 8 x rechargeable AA's and here are the results: I set them to full brightness to flash through 7 colors. Stayed bright and on that mode for 2 hours 20 minutes then only went Red, Green, and Blue for another 6 minutes, I guess the blue uses more power. After that...

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
After researching more, I think those numbers I listed for the D's are probably not accurate for this usage. I read this on a forum "Stay away from energizer, duracell, etc in this case, as they are just selling a AA battery in a D package, a 2500 mAh D cell. Yuck." And I actually tested a Duracell ...

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
I've had those lights on my bike for a couple years just using a 12v sealed battery, like the kind they sell for emergency lighting. this year I found these and they are made exactly for that, plug and play. reviews say about 2 hours of light for 5M of lights. http://www.amazon.com/Portable-4500mAh...

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
Yea real world testing is always the way to go. I'm going to try powering it off 8 x rechargeable AA's and see how long things last, I'll see what their total amps are before connecting. Seem's like my easiest testing right now since I have them lying around.

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
So I got around to hooking up a multimeter to the strip to see what kind of amps the entire strip was pulling. Turns out at the brightest setting on whit I was getting 1.7 amps, far from the 6 amps that was listed so I'm not sure what that rating was for. On the dimmest single color of red blue or g...

I don't currently have a way to recharge, waiting to figure out what I'll be using before figuring out how I'm going to charge it.

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
Didn't get it from here, but they have the consumption listed. https://www.torchstar.biz/detail.php?id=27
The controller says it outputs 2A to each color, so If I only ever have it on Red, Green, or Blue it will only consume 2 amps at full brightness.

Re: Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
It would be pulling 6 amps at full brightness with all the channels active making it white. I won't be having it on white at full brightness but thought those specs should be mentioned. And the 5050 LED's are super bright and do eat up quite a bit of power.

Battery for 5050 RGB LED strip on bike
I know this topic has been talked about in the past but I wasn't able to get a clear idea of what I should be getting. I wrapped my bike with a 5m RGB 5050 300xLED strip. Rating says 12v 6amp draw on full. I have the 44 key remote and plan on using it to flash through the colors on a dimmer setting....

Re: cooling your tent or van
Is there a minimum air volume that the unicooler should have? I was thinking of making a slim box to hang through my window so its not too heavy and more portable and then using a 5 gallon bucket sitting below it to hold the water. This would also make it easier for me to refill the water when neces...

Re: vehicle passes, my two cents.
Funny, I just came on to this forum today to figure out if there was anything I could do if I find a ticket but can't find a vehicle pass to go with it. I sleep in my truck and I don't have any other way out there. I wish it was just about money and they would let you enter if you paid $40 at the ga...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Is there any benefit to having the water and pump inside the cooler, besides making it a single piece unit? I was thinking about pumping the water onto the cooler pads from a separate reservoir with a return drainage tube from the cooler, so I am wondering if there would be a downside to that other ...

Re: cooling your tent or van
The unicooler should leave plenty of space for you to get in and out of the burbon. You won't have to have the space sealed up unless theres a dust storm, so you could set it on one end of the tailgate blowing into the space and the air would travel in a U and out the other side. The cooler is very...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Does the burbon have a tailgate, or doors that open out on the back? If it has a tailgate, just set the unicooler on that. If it has doors, you may need a tv tray or something to set it on unless it can set on the bumper. 8) It has a tailgate, but we use that as our entrance and exit to the vehicle...

Re: cooling your tent or van
I'm looking for a little guidance. I have a Chevy Suburban that we sleep in at the burn with the back end up covered by a monkey hut. I want to go the swamp cooler route this year to make things a little more comfortable. I'm not exactly sure the cubic foot measurement but I can't expect it to be a ...
