Re: LAG SCREWS and MONKEY HUTS...
So, do you think it could work if you did the 1/2"x24" lag screws and went halfway as Figjam mentions? Then use the 1" PVC on them and maybe two smaller lag screws for the tarp? I'm doing a Monkey Hut for the first time this year and want to avoid rebar if possible. Hoping using an impact driver is ...

Re: Carport Ratchet Straps
Actually just found someone in L.A. (a fellow burner) who is selling candy cane rebar at a fair price. As I tried to bend some myself and failed completely. So can use that for ratchet strap hooking! Thanks again for all the help.

Re: Carport Ratchet Straps
Thanks everyone. Putting the rebar with the ratchet straps inside the Carport space is a great idea. If I can't find candy cane rebar I might toss a pool noodle over the rebar to keep from people hurting themselves. I always do the gorilla tape to rebar for each pole as well (with some plastic wrap ...

Re: Carport Ratchet Straps
There are no dumb questions... but this may be one! So I've only used rope for guy lines (tied to rebar) on a Carport but ratchet straps sounds stronger. Do you have advice on good placement of the ratchet straps? How many? How thick? Over the top of the structure? And my possibly dumbest question, ...

Re: West Nile... Fake or Real
I would normally not be worried at all, but I've been completely exhausted since I got back. Yes, I realize exhaustion is normal after you've been staying up super late (or later) for a week straight, but I can't recall ever being this fatigued after other years a week after leaving the playa. The f...

EZ Up = EZ Down? Bad idea?
A friend just got an extra week off from work, found a ticket and vehicle pass and is now looking for a last minute shade structure she can fit in her car. She had a plan of doing a Coleman Instant 6 person tent (or she might be able to get her hands on a Kodiak), then getting an EZ Up 10 x 10 Pyram...

And now onto staking it down. I was planning on doing the "rope halo" of a rope around the roof in a circle/oval and then guy lines connected to that connected to stakes (rebar?) http://www.domerama.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/make_the_hexayurt_v071202_image10.jpg Are there updated ways to stake ...

Thanks for all tape the advice, people! I ordered an extra roll just in case (a fourth one.) I had a question for JKiska, but anyone feel free to jump in. Re: kodiak 10x14 vs hexayurt which should i go with?
So I may be in a lucky situation where I can borrow a friend's hexayurt or bring my Costco Carport with my tent underneath (the lucky is in having these options rather than having to create a new shade structure.) Not a Kodiak tent, although thinking of getting one. How hot does the hexayurt get wit...

Re: ANY LOS ANGELES RV RENTAL - BURNER FRIENDLY RECOMMENDATI
I went with Reyes RV for this upcoming year as I heard good things, and that they are definitely Burner friendly. Easy or hard to transfer RV reserverations?
Hey awesome people, I'm looking at a reservation for an RV for BM 2014 but the place charges the entire deposit if I can cancel. Which is about half the fee (a lot!) I don't plan on cancelling but a lot can happen between now and the end of August. They would allow me to transfer the reservation, so...

A friend has an early arrive pass as she was planning to help out her camp set up. But she got stuck having to work and now can't arrive until Sunday morning. Mokney Hut vs Costco Carport
Hello awesome people! So two years back, with the helpful advice of the people here, I went and got a Costco Carport for my shade structure. In the pros column, it was large and provided tons of shade for my tent underneath and I was able to sleep until noon after staying out until sunrise (the weat...

Hi lovely people, So many nice people here were able to answer my questions about a Carport last year, and this year I'm thinking RV or Hexayurt. The Hammock Hangout will be at 4:30 and E! The Hammock Hangout is a multifaceted highly interactive camp. The primary structure is a GIANT 120 feet in diameter, 11,300sqft of passive solar tent. There will be approximately 60 hammocks, a karaoke lounge, a bar, and a lounge area. We are an easy going...

Re: Have 10x14 Kodiak tent, do I need a shade over it
How do you put the space between the cover and the tent is what I'm actually asking. As (from what I've read) it seems you need at least a foot of space between the two to keep the tent itself from getting warm (although it is tall so you figure the heat would stay near the top.) Can I just toss a l...

Re: Have 10x14 Kodiak tent, do I need a shade over it
Do you put space between the top of the tent and the Aluminet/shade cloth? I'd much rather splurge on a good tent and do your way then stay with my crappy tent and a Costco Carport (can't afford to do the Kodiac tent AND the carport.)we just cover our kodiak with Aluminet . works great......

Over the weekend, I saw a huge one being sold on Craigslist in Los Angeles for a fair price (too big a tent for me) and it mentioned Burning Man in the ad.
So if you search there you should be able to find it.

Re: When It Comes to Tents......Is Bigger Better?
Freedyjay, you don't have to shade your tent, if you won't have much in the way of materials. You can instead escape into your shade in the mornings when your tent gets too warm. Sometimes there is enough for both tented and non-tented shade (ideal) but you don't want your shade to force you to be ...

Re: When It Comes to Tents......Is Bigger Better?
That's great advice. Thanks!
Now all I have to do is figure out my shade structure... The carports at Costco are about the same size as the tent itself so don't think that works.
Maybe draping shade cloth over the tent (held down by stakes and rope) could do it?

If you still burn in a canvas tent are they worth the high price?
The Kodiak ones look beautiful but are pricey.

Re: When It Comes to Tents......Is Bigger Better?
I'm looking at a 9' x 8' kodiak tent. Does that seems a good size for a solo camper? Don't know if it could fit a queen size bed but ideally an inflatable twin. (Coleman now has these twin inflatables you can stack or make into a queen.)
