Re: Plug&Play Camp PlayaSkool - Camp Probably intentionally left Moop to keep deposit and legally steal money from peopl

Ano, that is a carefully written letter. Nothing more. It's not a random opinion from placement. Why would anyone want to hide it? Last year they put a moratorium on outside service providers. No new ones were allowed. That is a step in the right direction. This year we've been informed not to cont...

I feel like that internal document will get taken down shortly. I encourage folks to take a look while you can, perhaps make a copy for your own PC.

That's eye-opening, depressing, and all sorts of infuriating to me.... the fact that this kind of stuff happens and it isn't gonna stop.

Re: Plug&Play Camp PlayaSkool - Camp Probably intentionally left Moop to keep deposit and legally steal money from peopl

I hope Placement will intervene. Placement will not intervene. They shouldn't intervene here, even. I will stop going to Burning Man once Placement begins intervening with camps due to internal monetary issues. This issue is on you and anyone else who is stupid enough to pay a bunch of morons $$$$ ...

Re: Ideating a meal prep service for BM 2019

I'd love it if such services were investigated in secret and the "participants" in such schemes were identified, not just the people running them. Then those people would have their tickets voided, or even better, get evicted from the event. Yes, I want burns ruined. I want to see lots of social me...

Re: Culture - Camps - Placement

I spent way too much time filling out my survey. For me, it boils down to a couple of things: 1. It's too easy to attend this event with a detached mindset nowadays. There are camps selling deluxe-ish relatively inclusive experiences for $500. I spend more than that every year on stupid shit. I real...

Soylent can be good, but I absolutely do NOT recommend drinking it for your first time on Playa. You're going to get a stomach cramp for the ages, and then you're going to fart some of the most vile farts you'll ever have, ever, EVER. Seriously, EVER. Soylent doesn't play nice with your stomach the ...

Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

I'm willing to put down money, right now, on this: This 747 isn't making it back to Burning Man. It's going to have to get scrapped because it's going to get stuck on playa in such a way that recovery is monetarily improbable. It's already starting to get there, if those front wheels are any indicat...

Re: has burning man *actually* gotten worse?

It's different. I still enjoy the event. I started coming in 2011. I feel like the event has changed, and I feel like there is a growing population of people who willfully choose to not get the event. It's frustrating to be around these people, and it's frustrating to watch camps grow that support t...

Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"

The experiences you had this year of flaws or fails in the culture really need to be sent to feedback@burningman.com or whatever email they set up for this year. They usually run it until mid-October and probably get 10-20K emails. Hogwash. This does stuff in some cases, but let's be real here. My ...

Re: Night at the climb in

As I understand it, some folks tried to shut it down before the event even opened. There was a lot of arguing and gnashing-of-the-claws, some folks tried to get it taken down early, and eventually it took 20ish high-up people in various departments threatening to handcuff themselves to the art proje...

After five years of service, my original Cooler Bucket, built in 2013, lives on. It still works like a dream. I only went for the weekend this year for a variety of reasons, but my cooler bucket continues to be the best thing I ever did. I think it may be time for me to upgrade it a bit, though. Thi...

I think it's worth mentioning that it is rather clear that there are some people out there who want to pump their numbers up this year. I bet it's because of the permit negotiation.

Re: Burning 2019-2028 Plan - Your input requested (long)

I did share my thoughts with the BORG, but I truly feel that enabling people to come in via mass transit options is a net negative for the event. I've spent too much time volunteering at the airport and seeing that weird operation grow exponentially over the past few years to not be honest about it.

Re: OK so what the hell did I miss (the good old days)?

I can at least safely say the event has been roughly the same since 2011, almost down to where some camps are placed. Not much shakeup, in a strange way. It's just gotten way, way bigger, which is even strange to say because it was huge when I first went.

Re: Do county or state cops ever enforce vehicle laws other than speed and registration?

I think it is absolutely worth nothing that in 2013, an overzealous BLM response to some permit negotiations gone sour ended up culminating in a very tough year for BLM enforcement, including ticketing a DPW art car driving around pre-event for not having seatbelts.

Once.

It happened once.

This needless obfuscation of the truth doesn't help anyone. Same with the muddying of ticketing issues with credentials/passes/staff-priced access/etc. Maybe if we are talking about where to find the tuna guys, sure, but operational things, I've always found it weird how the org is so squirmy over t...

It's not seen as good form to talk about, but volunteers do receive access passes for the next year if they work enough. I have attended on a staff credential for working enough for years. This conversation is way too late. I started in 2011, and it was probably too late to have it already then. I'm riding this train while I still can. I don't get why you can buy in the pre-sale and then continue to buy tickets in the main sale.

I don't think the pre-sale's intended purpose is an insurance investment, but that's what it appears to be for most. Buy a pre-sale ticket, go for the main sale, and if you can find a better ticket, spend the rest of the summer trying to offload it on Ebay/stubhub/facebook/etc, with varying degrees ...

The guaranteed way to avoid Exodus is to either leave early (estimated time: before man burns) or leave late (Tuesday afternoon). Even then, Tuesday Morning had a 3 hour wait this year somehow, and the gate did shut for a period of time post Man-Burn adding a bit of complications. If you have somewh...
