The passengers on the Burner Air Express are specifically targeted for "Burning Man 101" with a review of the principals before being let in to the event. Food for thought....

Re: Do county or state cops ever enforce vehicle laws other than speed and registration?

I think it is absolutely worth nothing that in 2013, an overzealous BLM response to some permit negotiations gone sour ended up culminating in a very tough year for BLM enforcement, including ticketing a DPW art car driving around pre-event for not having seatbelts.

Once.

It happened once.

Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"

This needless obfuscation of the truth doesn't help anyone. Same with the muddying of ticketing issues with credentials/passes/staff-priced access/etc. Maybe if we are talking about where to find the tuna guys, sure, but operational things, I've always found it weird how the org is so squirmy over t...

Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"

It's not seen as good form to talk about, but volunteers do receive access passes for the next year if they work enough. I have attended on a staff credential for working enough for years. And to be fair, it is not really too many shifts to at least guarantee yourself access. I know what the require...

Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"

I think it's a great thing they are willing to admit something, don't get me wrong. It's a huge step in the right direction. But I can't forget about Jim Tanenbaum - who was on the Burning Man Project board of directors was complicit in running the kind of camp that I think most would argue have don...

Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"

This conversation is way too late. I started in 2011, and it was probably too late to have it already then. I'm riding this train while I still can. I still have an insane amount of fun out there, but I can't deny the culture creep. Maybe I'm just getting older, too, because I'm almost 30 now and I ...

I don't get why you can buy in the pre-sale and then continue to buy tickets in the main sale.

I don't think the pre-sale's intended purpose is an insurance investment, but that's what it appears to be for most. Buy a pre-sale ticket, go for the main sale, and if you can find a better ticket, spend the rest of the summer trying to offload it on Ebay/stubhub/facebook/etc, with varying degrees ...

It is not my story to share, but... if any of you ever get the chance to talk to one of the RH guys, ask them what the sound system is. It has a very cool story that makes it a bit more magical, I think. We are absolutely and insanely spoiled in BRC to have these kinds of sound systems just driving ...

Definitely one of the top mobile sound-systems out there. A little bit harsh on the high end, but that's a given with the system they're using. The new emblem and the lighting were excellent, and their lasers they had running were just stupid. I spent a long time one late evening laying in the deep ...

I do not know specifically what the rules are regarding water-based art, but I have seen fountains and the like out there in camps. Re: Aggregated Information for Arrival, During, and Exodus

The guaranteed way to avoid Exodus is to either leave early (estimated time: before man burns) or leave late (Tuesday afternoon). Even then, Tuesday Morning had a 3 hour wait this year somehow, and the gate did shut for a period of time post Man-Burn adding a bit of complications. If you have somewh...

Years later, my figjam bucket is possibly one of the best things I've ever built for playa. So, what? Is a keyboardist not a musician because they can tag samples to keys and switch between them on the fly? Fuck, Page McConnell of Phish is no longer a musician. HVOB had their vocalist sing all songs, a drummer playing all the beats, and a keyboardist playing a mixture of notes and samples....

To the contrary, HVOB is a full live band. You're dumb. Thanks for shitting your opinion out like it matters, though. It matters as much as the other piles of shit in a porto.

I want to give a special thanks to the teenager who decided to disappear from her plug and play camp because she was mad at her parents and go off to party with a 30+ year old stranger. Thanks to her, we had one of the historically worst exoduses in a very long time. Hooray! It's time to take a long...

Y'know, a lot of folks poo-poo all over $100-200 dollar bikes sourced from the cheap places... and in some cases, rightfully so. They aren't made with the best parts, and some things come a bit screwy on them. But tens of thousands of us do, in fact, survive just fine on those cheap bikes every year...

I can't speak to your specific plan, but in my experience, the Monkey Hut is a great structure in its base configuration, but it does not scale very well. If you try to make it bigger, it becomes more and more of a danger. I had two experiences - One was with a camp building two long monkey huts. I ...

I don't bring extra water for mine - I just use the melt from the coolers in camp. Makes things much easier  However, it doesn't seem to use very much. By my scientific estimation, it uses a "wow, really? that's it?" amount of water after running it for 6 hours in the morning to s...

Talked with my last campmates. They had to carry some out due to our badly designed stakes. But... green five years in a row. I'm happy.
