Re: Testing a Monkey Hut - Fail

Aluminet is exactly the same as knit HDPE (high-density polyethylene) shade mesh, except the surfaces of the strands are metalized. How well it sheds water, breaks wind, or acts as camouflage depends on how clogged with playa dust it gets. I believe it's about half the weight of blue economy-type ta...

While I think the questions and responses are complete bullshit, it warms my cockles that the term "funky" in the hippie sense remains extant in Laytonville. Somebody should alert the OED editors.

Now is the FUCKING winter of our discontent Made glorious summer by this sun of York; And all the clouds that lour'd upon our house In the deep bosom of the ocean buried. Now are our brows bound with victorious wreaths; Our bruised arms hung up for monuments; Our stern alarums changed to merry meeti...

Re: Is BRC really the land of freedom?

You mentioned "social control" (singular). I think the broader term is " controlling processes ". Everybody who's made a habit of going to the Black Rock Desert is aware that the law and certain social norms exist there as much as anywhere in these United States. People who start...

Have seen 'em roll like tumbleweeds, one from our camp a couple years ago. When we got it back we zip-tied PVC to it profusely and dropped to about 4'. Also staked it and guyed it. Don't remember if it was those things or maybe no more big wind that allowed it to survive the week. Haven't had anoth...

In the year 2000, Dan Miller (aka Burning Dan) plowed a 2000-ft long trace of the Burning Man stick figure with a small tractor, roughly following the alignment of the Beaming Man laser installation. I don't think he particularly cared whether people noticed it or ran over it.

Some easy-up type awnings are worse than others, but they're all aviation hazards in a strong wind & prone to getting bent out of shape.

Google "conduit tarp canopies". Guy it.

Apropos of disasters, this struck me in the news this morning -- 14 people at a house party, sucking oxygen and maybe some moldy medical pot, all demanding a busride to General Hospital thinking they had CO poisoning. http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/S-F-partygoers-cleared-of-CO-poisoning-40673...
