Re: The Car Thread

I am back working on the 65 convertible. It's been 2.5 years since I started, and usually a resto takes me about a year. But in my defense, I finished the bel air, and also rebuilt the engine in my rv.

The goal is to have it done by July 13, which is the date I tore it apart in 2015

Re: Our Playa Homes

The captain and I were talking about this very thing today. I have never considered the playa home. It is completely inhospitable in the winter, and only marginally so in the summer. Home for me is definitely not the playa. It is a week long massively funded party in the desert, and if not for the w...

Re: The Car Thread

Nice S10. I build old chevys, specifically Impalas. Did a cool aircraft set up in my 6duece rag, but now I only build them to oem specs.

Did u c-notch the frame yourself? Did you do a 4 link as well? Would love to see more detailed pix of the fab work you did

I haven't been on eplaya for a while...too many projects. But here is the readers digest version of the past month: Finished phase 3 of the lowrat project Bel Air. Got all the lights to work, painted the dash, and installed new gauges. Next is interior, but for now she is a runner and good to go, at...

Re: Diesel Exhaust Fluid correction

We ran into problems with Def equipped vehicles in our vehicle maintenance department because of all the low/barely above idle speeds the trucks are forced to run at.

So mid/end of week we had to either take them out to deep playa or out onto the 34, and run them at wot until they cleared up

I wanna ride my bike to burning man and save the whales

Ok, usually by this point in the season, some ecologically minded asshat puts up a stupid post about riding their bicycle to burning man, because, you know, the environment and shit. (of course forgetting that burningman is far from.a green event, and a heavily polluting one at that) So feel free to...

Re: Burning Man wedding

Better yet, try this: get the legal wedding done in Reno. Then have a big, fun Playa wedding. There was one camp a few years ago that did fun and silly weddings, complete with a cool wedding certificate. But chowski nailed it. Wait a year. Because when you get divorced, and you go back to burning ma...

Re: At what time does it start getting cold at night?

In 2015, on Thursday of the event, the daytime high was 72F. So it was pretty cold all day, and devastatingly cold by 9 PM. Also, define cold. I tend to run hot anyway, so cold to me is usually a lot different than to most people. My idea of cold is when I have to wear my fur coat. And that usually ...

Re: do RV roof vents make a difference?

Ok, first of all DO NOT SPRAY ANY FILTER WITH WATER. Within a short period of time, you will have a clogged and now useless filter. If there is any type of fan trying to blow or suck air through it, you may very well burn out the fan motor. Like the captain said, keep everything closed. Yea your RV ...

I had the very same idea 2012. I even found an art car from my hometown, and set it all up. Everything. And then a few weeks before the burn they decided not to go. So quickly new plans were made, and ultimately I proposed under the man, just us. And a thousand or so onlookers. Your best bet is to m...

I thought it was pretty cool. Full disclosure: I am straight, and until last year, camped with a mixture of gay/straight participants (and a few who may not know what that are!). I love the flamboyant nature of that 'hood. I don't see that stuff often where I live, so for me it's new and exciting. B...

That is really cool. Which manufacturer?

I get asked to build cars all the time. But it's not worth it for me to do it as a side business. But when pressed, I tell them my rate is about 75k for a frame off build. And that only labor.

I haven't worn a costume in 10 years. Cargo shorts and a t shirt from 7 am to 9 on. Then a long coat and pants until bed time.

My project 65 impala is coming along well. Got the frame and all related undercar parts back from powder coat. All that's left to do is assemble the rear diff. I went with a Detroit True Trac instead of the typical clutch pack variety. Yes it's not OEM. Yes I know this. No I don't care. It's the onl...

On the way home, I usually stay at the Dow-Villa Inn in Lone Pine. They have a great big pool, and there is a pretty good Chinese restaurant a couple doors down. Nothing feels better than a cold pool on a hot September day. Then, just before I hit the rack for the night, I crank up the AC to meat lo...

For the last 6 years, I have taken (from socal) I5 north to the 138 E to the 14 N. The 14 eventually turns into 395. In bridgeport, just before you enter town (and across the street from NAPA auto parts), I split off 395 and take 182. In about 10 miles you hit state line, and the road becomes Nevada...

I'll continue to drink the Kool-Aid until it burns more than the STD I picked up last year at the burn.

One question though.... Who raised the vehicle pass cost? NDOT? The org? A 100% increase seems pretty suspect to me.

Oh well...

Pass the purple drink..
