Re: Seeking Tips for group "cooking" on the playa
I would love a vacuum sealer but the cost of those and the cost of vacuum seal bags were not budgeted for this year. Just plum overlooked if when I put together the kitchen budget. I'm going to be putting a thermometer inside the cooler to keep an eye on the inside temperature. That'll keep me from ...

Re: Seeking Tips for group "cooking" on the playa
Thanks, Strata! I plan to have 3 spray bottles - dish soapy bottle, clean water bottle, lightly-bleached water (though I wonder if I should get food-grade sanitizer instead?) As for the soft-sided cooler idea - I absolutely love that! My only worry is that I have to first haul it from Oakland to Ren...

Re: Seeking Tips for group "cooking" on the playa
love the tip about putting the gazpacho into tupperware, I hadn't even thought about ziplocks being permeable. thank you, asr9754!! bm_cricket, a friend of mine had also recommended a secondary, smaller cooler just to store the chili in since i don't want to freeze it. one of those water coolers, so...

Re: Seeking Tips for group "cooking" on the playa
so, I'm trying to map-out how to store the food for my camp before and during the Burn and I'm a little stumped. been reading a bunch on here and that's helped a bit but I'm worried I'm missing something. i'm pre-cooking 3 meals for camp -- chili, gazpacho, & breakfast burritos the chili will be for...

Re: Seeking Tips for group "cooking" on the playa
Gazpacho is amazing on playa - make it at home, freeze it solid, and serve when it starts to melt - no cooking, no clean-up, and it is cold and fresh. This is brilliant. And absolutely what I'll be doing for our lunch meal. Ty for the tip!!! Now I just need to figure out dinner & breakfast. (Only d...

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...
I've got a set of 4 each of these: Planning to use the fatter ones for my 6-person tent. And two of the skinnier ones as extra support, because I could only find these in 10" even though I really wanted 12" I'll keep an eye on each of them as the week progresses and if it appears they're loosening ...

Re: New burners from the East Coast need logistics advice
When I flew from DC, I used Southwest to cut down on luggage costs. And as one of my checked bags, I used this: http://centrexplastics.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/15.jpg Between that, a large duffel and the food stuffs I picked up in Reno, I was all set. For getting to and from Reno. :) NOTE: Use...

Re: What do you want to do next year?
I want to *Stay up all night. Just once. I am terrible at this. TERRIBLE. *Build a yurt. Only been dreaming about it for 3 years. *Buy an early ticket. That whole low-income ticket thing that got me into the Burn my first year? It was amazing. I want to be a part of the fray helping pay it forward. ...

Wasn't There, But It Felt Like I Was
I mean, it didn't really. But for not being able to attend this year (despite *really* wanting to go), it was wonderful getting to play along while the folks building BRC posted pictures and other social media outlets got updates and the ePlaya stayed active. It was kind of humbling, not having gott...

Re: How to Dye With Dignity!
12 scarves (and 2 masks) ordered!
I figured I'd want to dye/paint a bunch and give 'em out as gifts. lol. AND this way if I bring some friends/campmates, they can use some of my scarves - leaving Dye w/Dignity to dole yours out to other burners!

FIGJAM, four friends (and their S.O.'s) goin' to the Burn are all using your swamp cooler technique. I am sort've mind blown and awed at how far it has come from when you started the whole thing. Here's one of 'em https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/420049_10151011484979296_1437469089_n.jpg

Re: So what are you doing for the Meet & Greet in 2012?
I feel like I need to arm myself with a list of "to-do's" while on the Playa. Except the regionals have taught me that all sorts of planning goes right by the wayside when you actually get goin'. All that aside, I have been looking forward to this M&G since I joined the eplaya back in Sept. Sooooo.....
