This OMG sale's technical issues are an embarrassment

11:40: Does my code work? Is this one of the sales that will have a waiting room? They don't tell us how it will work, so let's try it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 11:41: Code not valid yet, fair enough, let's try later. 11:45: How about now? Not yet? Fine. Let's try later. 11:55: Should work now, right? No? Hmm. 11:5...

Planned Playahood returns in 2017 -- event schedule

Planned Playahood is back in 2017 for our second year. We are the combination of two long-standing theme camps, camp DeBocceRi and camp Cats! Cats! Cats! Each have more than ten years on the playa. True to our roots, the combined camp still offers bocce ball and cat-themed events, but there's so muc...

Re: 2017 Street Names and their meanings

Whoops, I missed this prior post: https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=507&t=80973 So the street names were printed in the survival guide. And apparently (per Retro) "Julu" was a typo, it was supposed to be Juju. Therefore: Juju : The magic associated with the amulets and charms of West Afr...

2017 Street Names and their meanings

I haven't seen any official map posted yet, but because placement info went out this week, the street names are known. Most are self-explanatory, but here are a couple of notes: Awe : Feelings of reverence and respect mixed with fear or wonder. There's a duality to this word: Awe can come from both ...

2016 street names and their meanings

Hey Eplaya! Dr. Z here. I'm part of camp DeBocceRi, located in the Planned Playahood village at 7&B. For DeBocceRi's public Facebook page, I wrote a series of posts about the street names. Here I've compiled them into one place, just in case you find it of interest. (If you visit the Debo public pag...

Re: It's... the 2016 OMG Sale Thread!

This was another debacle. The counter went from 5 seconds down to 1, then back to 3, then to 0, then (about 2 seconds later), the button appeared. I clicked and then got a spinny thing, which I still see: https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13882170_10157218200865357_7731911128845600026_n.jpg?oh=...

Re: Meanings of the 2015 street names

Oh and esplanade is pretty commonly used as the street name for a frontage street, like the street that runs along a beach, I thought that was pretty common knowledge? Yeah, you're right, it's pretty common knowledge but I figured if I was including the definition for other common words like arcade...

Re: Meanings of the 2015 street names

Awesome. I think a lot of these may have "hidden" carny meanings -- I searched for a while for the ones like "kook" and "illusion" that seemed a bit too ordinary. Illusion seems to have a specific use in carnival terms related to certain types of acts like flea circuses and headless men. At http://w...

Meanings of the 2015 street names

The map was published today: http://burningman.org/event/black-rock-city-guide/2015-black-rock-city-map/ Here are things I could find related to the meanings of each of the street names: Esplanade: an open, level space serving for public walks or drives. Arcade: an arched or covered passageway, usua...

Re: Dutch Auctions are the answer for how tickets should wor

Brad, I like the idea, and I even agree it's more rational than the current system. I don't think people have gotten the point you're making: It's a lottery TODAY. Some people clicked the green button at 12:00:03 and didn't get a ticket. Some people clicked the green button at 12:01 or later and did...

Re: Who got tickets in the Individual Sale?

2012 was the worst year (demand was roughly triple), and this year the runner up (demand for the Individual Sale was roughly double the supply). Trilo, the blog post said that 80k people registered for 40k tickets. Are you assuming that each of the 80k is only going to buy one ticket? I think most ...

I just got in. SOLD OUT Absurd. I logged in at 12:00:29 So looking at other comments here it looks like tickets (&VP) sold out in 5 to 15 seconds. BM should officially announce TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT. They just did on FB, pointing to this: http://blog.burningman.com/2015/02/news/what-if-i-dont-get-a-...

If you got tix in Directed sale, can't try for Individual?

My burning profile page says: 2015 Tickets Individual Sale You are not eligible to register for the Individual Sale. A code assigned to you was already used to buy tickets in a previous sale. Huh? I was able to try to get Individual tickets last year after I purchased two Directed tickets. (Unless I...

JT's completely absurd and non-apologetic response is the most mystifying thing I've ever seen associated with Burning Man, and I've seen Pepe's operas.

No lines except the zip lines, eh Sarge? I left Labor Day morning around 10am. Zero line. Went the limit almost the entire time. Smooth sailing to Wadsworth by noon (where I stopped for gas; while pumping, my car was hit by an RV being driven by a very exhausted English person who didn't seem to kno...

In the Souk, there was this musical instrument that you could play by rubbing the glass tubes that hang beneath the brass (similar to how you can make a wine glass vibrate to play a note). Anyone know the name of the piece and/or artist? edit: forgot the link to the pic: http://www.zeigen.com/blog/w...

Re: Bright-line test: Theme camps paying live-in employees $

I know lots of people work the event (medics, law enforcement, etc.), and specified that up front. Generally my bright-line test applies to employees of theme camps, not the org. Are they necessary? Are they "allowed" under the principles? Honest question,mdmf007: What does the decommodification pri...
