no problem trixiy, everyone's got their own idea of what works and doesn't and their own perspective on the condition of the playa. funny how playa condition is the most obsessive topic of discussion, even though it really doesn't change much, aside from '01 i think it was, that was a crappy year fo...

surfaces i've seen

well trixie, i've seen the playa surface the last seven years and have seen everything from pretty deep playa sand dunes to hard concrete to flakey crusty top so that would be the playa i'm talking about, if you wanna be snarky. that said i haven't really experimented with too many types of tires ou...

slick vs. knobbies?

so i'm curious bob about your suggestion for slicks. I think i can see both sides and i had previously been thinking of switching out my slick cruiser tires for a pair of knobby mtn bike tires but now i'm not sure. So if you're driving in playa dunes, knobbies are gonna grip more and maybe get you o...

light suggestions

do you NEED a personal light, no, unless you're on a bike in which case BLM could cite you. It's also not going to be as dark this year with the moon being out quite a bit. That said, a light's not a bad idea. Seems like i see very cheap LED flashlights everywhere, discount grocery, hardware sportin...

toxic fumes

A little bit, I did it outdoors and it didn't bother me. You don't need to really burn it, just get it hot enough to fuse together. I'm sure it is highly toxic, probably took a few years off my life, so it goes.

Tip about Turf

I agree that astroturf is moop hell and have stopped using it, but if you're planning on using it, try fusing the edges with something like a small propane torch, works great.

costco tarps

I second the recommendation for costco tarps, they're actually more like 12' x 16'. I've been using them for years, very tough and keep the sun out much better than cheezy blue tarps, plus they have extra reinforced corners, and they're super cheap.

probably Winnemucca

I drive from SLC every year and have had pretty good luck in Winnemucca. We always go to Raileys, the local grocery store. The only problem I've encountered is that sometimes the other burners clean them out of the cheapest booze forcing me to buy the next to the cheapest booze. I've never searched ...

stakes

I got some extra long tent stakes from a local camping store, they had both 12" and 16" and are kinda a long "v" shape if that makes any sense. They are not going anywhere in the playa, the 16" ones were actually kinda overkill unless you've got something really serious to hold down. They also have ...

you think they'd know that making by making "official pronouncements" about anything pretty much assures that the the opposite will happen. What's more fun than calling it "the stick," knowing that it's pissing someone else off.

I dreamed of Bman incessantly for about two weeks after I got back. Weirder though is the phenomenon, echoed by others, of waking up in one's own bed and not knowing where the hell you are. I've had this every year but it was even more vivid and disturbing this year. I used to attribute it to drug f...

interesting stats, from my experiences and from talking w/ people I expected drug related arrests/citations to be up from last year. I guess that shows how a few isolated events can skew your perception of the whole deal.

I find it interesting that people can be so allegedly outraged by police conduct, on the one hand, yet also say that it's not worth the effort to challenge it because it's only $250. A truly outraged person fights a battle for the principle involved not because of the possible costs/rewards. If BLM ...

I was definitely more tired this year, but I did have some bronchial inflamation going into the event which a week of dust and smoke didn't help at all. I find it interesting that a lot of people who have tired of burning man not only "aren't going next year" but also don't seem to want the event to happen at all, or at least not in its present incarnation. That seems pretty selfish. Clearly some people are still enjoying the hell out it. I don't se...

one other perspective

I've never been very interested in hanging out in center camp or buying anything. However, this year I found myself relaxing there with a cup of coffee fairly often. The reason: I was rangering and it was conveniently located next to Ranger HQ. Java from the cafe helped keep me going. Based upon thi...

assholes pay more

I was talking to a Perimeter person who told me that the ticket price for people they caught at the fence was inversely related to the amount of attitude said person displayed upon being caught. If I ran the world everything would be based upon the same system.

Re: Art cars and safety and lessons...

This should be the number one priority of the Burning Man staff. Fuck this shit, how many people have to die getting run over before they start pulling these cars? People don't usually die visiting theme camps. Come on now, we gotta do something. Anyone know who I can contact about this? Anybody fu...
