Burner Couple Looking for Camp

Hello! I'm currently helping two friends of mine (one a veteran burner and one a virgin) find a camp to live with while at the burn this year. They've got their basic gear, but are hoping to find space with a chill camp that has a few shared resources (like a shower and/or kitchen area, major bonus ...

It was very hot out and he was mentoring and training some new dust free rangers, Before heading out for more training in the dusty city. Ah, you mean the first shift freshly trained Rangers go on, where their mentors watch them and decide whether or not they would make good Rangers? That's not act...

WE did contact the BRC Rangers HQ in Center Camp and got or 4th BRC Ranger no show! :( Just to clarify... did you go to HQ for all four (I thought you said it was three earlier?) times no rangers came to help? If so, there's a log and we can figure this out. If not, how did you contact them the oth...

Really?

There were three earlier attempts in the week to have rangers show up at our camp and other locations, but they were no-shows. 1. Are we talking about the same rangers? Many people don't realize there are the BRC Rangers, and the federal BLM Rangers. Asking the feds to send the BRC Rangers somewher...

PUBLICIZE the standard widely. (the existing 300 watt standard has been a fairly well-kept secret) And ENFORCE it. This includes telling people who complain about camp(s) which are NOT in violation to STFU. A pain? Of COURSE it is a pain! But ain't all the bitchin about loud music a pain too? I wou...

Now here's the rub. Unless and until the folk in charge in your camp accept and agree that they have something to apologize for, there ain't much progress to be made via conversation. Want to help avoid these situations in the future? Help your camp to understand that there are rules on sound in BR...

Ranger M, I've got a question for you. Why is it, in all your posting and attempts to stand up in the situation, I've yet to see you take responsibility for your camp's actions and apologize? You must have missed the post where I specifically said the camp takes responsibility for breaking the soun...

Ranger, since Player will not be responding anymore, and I'm nearing the end too, I just wanted to point out that this thread was started by Player for two reasons: 1. To expose you and the rest of Outpost 23 for how you acted this year and 2. To hopefully bring about some sort of change in the fut...

Player, I honestly don't understand why you are harboring this much hostility, nor do I undestand your refusal to contribute to a solution. I highly advise taking a really deep breath, letting it out slowly, and repeating at least 5 times: "It's only Burning Man, and it's in the past. How can I...

I would think it all has to do with the fact that the general public is told time afer time not to take the law in it's own hands. Yea yea I know it's not the law, but you get my drift... So the "right" thing by that statement , is to seek out the Rangers... Taking the law into your own h...

My apologies for the long post, there were quite a few responses while I was away from the computer :) I might also suggest that simple democracy might be a good way to mediate. If there are more people pissed off about the sound (and who are willing to 'vote' by attending the "meeting") t...

Then maybe said BRC rangers job, as part of the offending camp, would be to march that ranger butt to center camp and find out who has the authority to rectify the situation. As far as I know, there is currently no system in place for dealing with this specific issue. And I'm really unclear as to w...

OK, I will, but as I see it, from the standpoint of a paid professional, if I were part of a camp that exceeded limits on sound, the issue would have been resolved to the satisfaction of the offended parties. You would be absolutely right, if enforcing that sort of thing were actually the BRC Range...

Well, yeah it does. By breaking the 300 watt rule and by not reducing your volume level when asked, the O23 earns the full blame. All of it. It was your camp's fault (accepting the utility of "fault," and, "blame," which I usually don't), and you were assholes. We can take the b...

1) Ask if those complaining have tried negotiations. If not, encourage them to do so. Perhaps provide helpful suggestions as to how to go about it (tho' they shouldn't have to, I mean we all are supposed to be adults here). Also, they should outline the process (something like what I did above, exc...

Re: Sassy's Story

Ranger, he absolutely did not grab anyone's collar. If you were referring to someone else, I surely hope you'll clear that up. Good to know... I'm simply relating what I was told. As I said, I can't guarantee that's what happened because I wasn't there at that point in time. I told the Ranger (a su...

Hmmm, BM LLC publishes rules of conduct, like the 300 watt rule, rangers are supposed to be mediators, if the camp is in violation of the published BM LLC rules, the rangers should mediate and if that fails, take it to the next level and let them settle the issue. You've got it right: we're mediato...

Nope

Kind of a long diatribe about a ranger not enforcing the sound rules isn't it? Not really. I just wanted to bring a different perspective to the topic, because when you're only dealing with extreme points of view the whole story is never told completely. Though that does bring up an interesting que...

I've finally gotten a chance to get onto Eplaya, and as the "pet ranger" at Outpost23 (as I was originally labeled earlier in this thread) I'd like to offer a third perspective to this tale of woe. To get it out of the way, here's how I would summarize the situation: Outpost23 was placed a...

HATE YOU! Stoopid spring breakers. I think the people you're really angry at are the types you described, not all "spring breakers"... Re: How I found myself at Burning Man

(Tuna fish?? ---WHAT WAS I THINKING??!?) Somebody hugged me and said, "Welcome home," which gave me a bit of start ... what if this was my mom's secret getaway and, like, she never told anyone. I shook it off though and they patted me on the ass and sent me on my way. I quoted the two things from y...

The rangers don't really care if people can see better or not, they just need a solid bunch of bodies to keep everyone under control. You know, I don't really care what their reason was... I was just frustrated that no one beyond the first row could see anything. Heck, I'm 5'10" and I'll be damned ...

Clothing Recommendations

Hi!

I'm not really planning on being naked, so what types of clothing do you vets recommend I bring? Are just basic tank tops and shorts ok?

Side question, what about shoes? I was planning on wearing sandals but someone told me that is a really bad idea. What has worked in the past for you?
