Re: The Bar 2018 Edition

Morning peeps. *sidles up to the bar with swagger and grin* I'll just have something in my coffee. Time to get dressed. It's Newbie Orientation Day. There are costumes to sort. Later taters.

Token, what a silly thing to say. Try meeting with opposition without any statistics. When you go to court the party with the most paper wins. Join us for a day in the Census lab. We'll tell you what the numbers do for YOU. And you'll have fun.

Re: Volunteering for Burning Man Departments in 2018

Capt. You and I are exact opposites in one sense. I'm nicer online and you are nicer in person . We do agree on some things. I don't like that there are people flying in. (approximately 6,000 of them). Some of the ones coming on the bus contribute nothing. (I don't know how many arrive by bus.) But ...

Feeline, Welcome to eplaya. Maybe you could narrow your search by going to the BM site. Look for the volunteer dept and then contact the appropriate person. Try the Temple contact. Maybe they can hook you up.

Hey, that's why I love to be the bouncer. I get to meet so many new friends. (Even if we've known each other for years because I have no memory.) Plus all the old jokes are new again.

Re: Volunteering for Burning Man Departments in 2018

Capt. I don't understand you. At all. On one hand you run the event down continually. You say it's gone to hell because there are too many non-participants. Virgins and fly-ins that don't lift a finger for others. Yet you are trying to dissuade people from being part of the community by pitching in....

Just_Joe, You are right. I can't remember if I volunteered the first year or not. (I could look it up somewhere.) I'm sure I did the 2nd and every year since. I started with cafe and greeters. Moved around to help out here and there. Settled on Census. It wouldn't be as much fun without the communit...

Re: Oh the places you go alright

Welcome. This event is like no other. The harsh elements add to the pleasure. You'll have no trouble finding things to help with. Tired travelers can use a hand putting up their tent or shade. Fix a flat bike tire and share a beer. Help a load of dirty hippies squeeze their RV into a tight spot. The...

Re: Advice for art long-term playa-proofing?

Anti M, Really? ModPodge! I'll have to revisit that. I'm well known for doing it wrong. Every year I make a bunch of collages to gift but mine are laminated 8 by 10s. This way I can be lazy and stick them together with a glue stick. At the burn the people can browse the post cards, collages and bott...

OGD, Welcome to eplaya. Congrats on getting a ticket. Speaking of tickets. EVERYONE in your vehicle must have a ticket or you will be sent back to drop that person in town. (About 90 miles away.) Then you can get back in line. So check eveyone's ticket before they get in the car.

Blue collar Bob printed those passports. (If they are the ones I'm thinking of.) He's a great source of stories too. It's hard to get any work done when all we do is compare pictures and laugh. Another example of how Burning Man has impacted my life. I'm always drawn to the outside vendors that are ...

Wow. A 40 foot RV pulling a 30 ft trailer. I hope you know what you're doing. Anyway, if you plan to join a camp you had better hurry. camp applications are due this month. They will be turning in a layout, (a map of where each RV is parked). Good luck.

loki206, Congrats! I pronounce that you are now an independent theme camp. (I filled out my application today.) Tiger Man Camp is made up of 5 dedicated burners. Last year was the first time we requested placement and everything went smoothly. We have a killer event that runs all week whenever anyon...

I have a cheap $35 Coleman. For only beer and ice it works fine. I wrap it in a cozy and support it a few inches off the ground. Ice for 3 days or more.

Our camp is privately known as 'Over preparation Camp'. It just means we bring too much stuff. We are on the other end of that scenario. Boring. I keep waiting for an interesting story. Nothing. These people think they're at Starbucks. Wait in line. Place your order. Pick it up when your name is called. I miss the empty promises. I miss the flowery language. The class of 2018 are a bunch of unimaginative carbuncles.

Denis. Search old posts. You are totally in the dark. (Talking out of your posterior.) Go there by yourself. Do your research. Come prepared for rain, wind and fire. Bring an event. Not just some mardi gras beads. Make giant art. Volunteer 3 or 4 shifts in a department. Then come back here next year...

I have a bag of used climbing straps as a back up. I love them. Easy to tie and untie. No wind noise. Impossible to break them. I used them this week-end for an event. Oh, and they come in bright colors to fit into your decorating scheme. At the Burn I use ratchet straps for the ease of it.
