So, is everyone (both of you) prepared to ride out a super El Nino in the desert this year? Every year we think we have seen the worst weather possible and Mother Nature says "Hold my beer".
Im done tenting it. Last year broke my will. I had early entry and got the full experience.

Best of luck to you. Since the event hasn't sold out the last 2 years the FOMO is NoMo. I had to sell one at a substantial discount last year.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: The CFO of Burning Man on bringing the nonprofit back from the brink
I dont know about anyone else but for 2 years in a row we have had pretty shitty neighbors and this year's murder seems like a symptom of how the crowd is changing. I dont mind the horrible weather but it also seems like every year we think we have seen the worst the Playa can throw at us and them M...

The Eplaya structure reminds me of Craigslist or Drudge Report, which still keep their 1990's design and aesthetic, which doesn't resonate with the kind of burners we see waving their phones in the air at the man burn or at million dollar mutant vehicles blasting generic DJ riffs that must have dro...

Funny, I find myself once again driving West to get away from wildfire smoke. That really seems counter intuitive.FlyingMonkey wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 9:10 pmIronic that I have to travel closer to California this year to get away from the wildfire smoke.
Anyway, have any locals been on Playa recently? How's it looking??

What's your favorite tool?
It seems like every year I use Burning Man projects as an excuse to buy new tools. For years I'd have to say my 4" grinder was my favorite. But this year I bought a rivnut tool for attacking my solar panels to a steel frame. I think the grinder has been dethroned. Rivnuts rule.

Re: Holding Down Shelter - Structural Engineer Needed Please
2017 was a bad wind year for my camp. Not so much constant high winds but one very strong down burst that hit us head on. We use the standard 10' x 20' carports that are popular. We "always" put 14" lag bolts on each leg and sometimes use cargo straps as guywires for additional security. When the wi...

Re: Tesla as a base for mutant vehicles
If nothing else it's guaranteed to get burned by someone. But seriously, any EV is probably overkill for something that's not supposed to exceed 5 MPH and has been mentioned charging one without the normal electrical infrastructure seems impractical. It's just hard to beat burning dead dinosaurs whe...

Re: 2023 One Item A Day For Burning Man
5 X 200 Watt solar panels were just dropped off on my doorstep. I guess I should buy a Swiffer to keep them clean on the Playa (as if). That should be enough power to keep the margarita blender running. For what it's worth, my solar set-up exceeded my needs as expected. It ran the camp Starlink 24/...

Since it's looking like the BORG has abandoned everything that made Burning Man a cultural phenomena and next year will either be more expensive or have corporate sponsors, I'd like to start this list early and nominate Marian Goodell for this prestigious award. Re: Partying during Early Arrival?
I asked this nine years ago and the common wisdom seemed to contradict the official rules. This year the official site for SAPs says Any person who is on the playa before the event begins should be there to build or work. This is not a time to "get the party started early." [You] must hold onto the...
