Re: No Spectators:The Art of Burning Man at the Smithsonian

I'll be in DC in April chaperoning an 8th grade class. I think I'll have to drag them through this. I'll be sure to capture it the best I can & share it with those who cannot go.

Well you gave enough fucks to comment. So there’s that... Thank you for allowing me to disagree with you. Bad day? No, not really. How do you know that it’s all hypocritical and won’t be fixed? Ha. Took me a sec but I see what you did there. Take an existing thread, move some words, discuss. I like it. While I'm glad people arent driving their cars over tents anymore the whole "Potentially Deadly" aspect of Burning Man is part of the allure for me. Maybe this year someone will br...

I don't give 2 fucks about Hollywood and people who think wearing black makes a difference and then they go back to looking the other way. Where were all these "men in black" over the last several years? I'll tell you where. They were in Hollywood looking the other way while all this was g...

Re: Let the ranting begin!

Pre sale ticket is $990 (or $1200). Not $900. When entering the sale, there is a choice: $990 or $1200, until the $990 is sold out. And yes, it is an insurance. For foreign burners this is better because of preparation (flight, car / RV rental). The earlier the better and cheaper. The higher ticket...

For the presale tickets it states some are $900 and some are $1200. I understand a ticket is a ticket and all and there are no perks. What is the difference? By that I mean how do you get one over the other. Nothing. Zip. You are donating to the project to support art, etc. Catching the Rocky Horro...

"Kept hippies from peeing in it and emptying beer cans." Kind of the same thing. A true hippie would never dump a beer that they mooched off someone else. You had pretty good results considering it was a bit humid this year. Is there anything that just didn't work as well as you had hoped ...

We have a growing problem with clueless spectators, who are the worst threat to the Burning Man ethos, so I am with Token and Popeye on this. Agreed. Well, its not quite off the shelf, but I've been making some wine from kits that go for about $40 and yield 6 gallons of ~10% wine. So far I've done a shiraz, malbec, zinfandel blush and a sauvignon blanc that turned out well. +++1000 If you have not checked it out here's a great wine making resour...

Cool trucks for sure, I saw them in person. You can join their camp next year, base price starts around $10,000 and you can add on options up to around $54,000 for the deluxe experience. Too rich for my blood & I have to sit next year out anyway. So reading between the lines....are they a PNP o...

FM, I think you may be referring to Pathogen Trackers camp, out of Florida. Black "Bio-hazard" trucks

What was the camp that had a bunch of black trucks with Bio-hazard symbols on them? The camp seemed pretty well organized & if they all traveled together in a convoy probably caused fear & panic to everyone who saw them. I thought it looked pretty cool but never ventured in to meet them.

Sharke, I am interested to see what you come up with. Keep posting once you start your build. I like the idea, just not the material. Another thing you may consider is to not make the wall out of solid blocks and only apply the facade to a base material. Those solid blocks are huge cost a lot. I do...

Re: 15' wall made of polystyrene / styrofoam?

Styrofoam comes in many forms. We are all acquainted with the one that breaks into millions of tiny balls. (That's great if you want to fill a bean bag chair.) There are other kinds. Such as the ones used as pontoons. I would do some research and ask some real experts. You may be on to something. L...

Remember, gust can top 60 mph. holes and slots sound great, but the sail you're making there will catch a lot of wind. I'd say you'll need/want diagonal pracing, tension and compression if it's only on one side.
