Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
I am getting the feeling from the replies that I should rephrase my question-I'm testing my understanding of how the system is intended to work. as the directed distribution tickets are given out, the people who are in these theme camps, collectives, etc will have their STEP orders canceled (or be ...

Sorry for the exclamation point abuse. What a relief, though, after a longggg and stressful process. Thrilled.

The "missing" ticket mystery...
A lot of people I now are wondering *who* exactly got tickets. Theories abound of rampant virgin interest, conspiracies to break up old timers' camps and grand scalper schemes. On the ground we're looking around and it just doesn't seem like enough tickets made it into the hands of the community to ...

Re: Why I'm a lottery defender.
Perhaps. I'm not accusing the Org of anything but creating a giant, epic clusterfuck under the dubious premise of preventing scalping, I keep wondering why people have such a hard time with this simple fact - the lottery was intended to try to be as fair as possible in distrubuting tickets WHEN THE...

Yeah yeah yeah, I know the proper name is Black Rock City, LLC. But it's way more fun to call them the Borg.

Re: Who plans on submitting tickets into STEP program?
Yeah... If I *had* a ticket, it would never go to STEP. I know about 30 people offhand to whom I'd absolutely love to hand a ticket at face value. And if I happened to have some massive surplus of tickets, why in the world would I participate in the Borg's scalper paradise, enabling others to nab fa...

Re: This is how it SHOULD have been done.
Totally agree with your proposed solution. I've used will-call for many years and had no problem at the gate. I show them my ID, it is matched to my name in the database, and they hand me my ticket. I also bring along the printout of my confirmation email just in case there is an issue. Making the ...

The stony silence of the BORG
Predictions of this precise situation abounded pre-lottery, and the Borg didn't pay attention. Members of the community who pressed the issue were belittled by a handful of lottery drumbeaters, and now we've found that -- indeed -- everything you need to know about this system could have been predic...

Re: The unOfficial **freak0ut thread, where it's OK to PaNiC
I was drawn to it after reading about the core principles and the more I researched and dug it seems like every year it drifted further from what it was originally about. Regardless I am determined to at least give it a chance hoping that the core values behind it still shine through. It was origin...

Establishing a corner of ePlaya for any anxious fretting from wannabe denizens of Burning Man 2012. Re: Lotto... tempting regular folks into scalping?
All that was true the minute tickets sold out last July. Scarcity is the problem. If it was done via first come, first serve the boards would be filled with people screaming bloody murder about the event having completely sold out already. No, perceived scarcity is the problem. There isn't that muc...

Hey to all five lotto defenders... why?
The defenders of the lotto post so often and vigorously, if you perusing the boards and not paying attention you'd almost think that the proponents and opponents of the new system are about evenly split. Until you realize that there are, like, 5 defenders who comprise the majority of the posts. I do...

And yes, I agree that most lotto winners will of course look out camp mates and friends first. Very curious to see if many people use STEP. Glad they set it up as an option, but it seems like it will probably be a last resort for most.

Re: Lotto... tempting regular folks into scalping?
I'm baffled by the lottery fans who refuse to acknowledge that this system brings a fresh set of problems and challenges. The inflated sense of scarcity (real and/or perceived) and the problems with planning major projects are issues that are so obvious with the new system, it's virtually self-evide...

Re: Lotto... tempting regular folks into scalping?
This system actually relies MORE on people simply *choosing* not to scalp, when they've purchased more tickets than they otherwise would have. The entire basis of this system is to put more tickets into fewer people's hands, and hope they do the right thing. LIsten, I believe that burners are an exc...

Lotto... tempting regular folks into scalping?
For starters, the system encourages ticket hoarding, period. This is psych 101. And now that most people have overbought, we have turned what would have been regular purchasers into de-facto redistributers. Now that's a very very very great place to be for a lottery winner, when huge amounts of peop...

Re: Fears for tiers
They can't make the buyer just compete in one tier, because for anyone who JUST WANTS TO GO at ANY price, then it becomes some dumb game of guesswork over which will be the least competitive drawing. I'm not convinced that the highest priced tier will be the least competitive -- most people ready to...
