How much was spent on direct art grants to honorarium recipients this year? I can't seem to find a total anywhere. Thanks for any help!

Re: PA and sound systems for vehicles
Marine stereos and speakers are designed to be better sealed and resistant to the elements. You can also find amps nowadays that have a volume control - that way you can not bother with a head unit. Just plug your ipod into the amp and mount the volume control knob anywhere you want.

On Playa Generator Rental/Servicing
What companies will be doing theme camp/village sized generator drop-off and refueling in 2014?
I know United Services handled a lot of it last year. Does anyone have contact information? Are there other options?
Thanks for your help!

What systems are people using to share music across art cars? (besides running long RCA cables)
I know someone was loaning good quality wireless receivers around some of the major large cars, and I was wondering what they used? 5.8ghz uhf? WiFi?

I've tried different browsers, cleared caches, different computers, different networks -- all end in "invalid code".

Re: New car fees and more great ideas
With the closing of the Gypsum mine the wear and tear on these roads has to be down 80-90%. This is basically a shake down of burningman by Nevada, and the Borganizers decided it was easier to not argue this one. They can't win every fight on every issue. And maybe we'll actually get better road con...

Re: New car fees and more great ideas
Just thought I’d also point out that the $1.4 million in extra ticket revenue from these parking passes is 75% more than what is given out in art grants (~$800,000/yr). So the participants are now spending more on managing traffic than the organization does to encourage art. Barf.

Re: Done Driving At Night
I gave up on Friday night - it was complete chaos. I mean I LOVE chaos and all, but I had to spend so much time dodging people I couldn't enjoy looking around or talking with my passengers. I parked it and we went out for a walk. Saturday night didn't seem as bad. I have a 500watt halogen spotlight ...

Re: 2013 Honorarium Art Grants
I was surprised by the number of past projects that received honorariums this year. Sure, it's nice to bring back past art, but I would have thought more preference would have been given to new projects - or that they could fund transport on their own.

Esplanade at night
Is it just me, or are esplanade theme camps kind of dead at night nowadays? Last year at night I cruised playa art, and made the usual stops at the man/temple/2&10, but I didn't find many esplanade camps that were interesting in the evening. Wal-mart?!? Meh. I wonder if this is because so many group...

Re: How fast can you charge an electric cart?
Or use something more sturdy. I built my MV based on an electric Cushman Titan baggage truck. I was cautious at first, but soon realized that if I plugged it in when back at camp, and ran the 2000w genny when parked somewhere for a while (off dancing, etc) - I could pretty much drive it as much as I...

I used taillights from a 1959 Cadillac - they look like rockets. For the front I used a vintage 500w spotlight off of a fire engine (I put it on a dimmer to be nice).

Re: Night Time Illumination
For a medium sized 5-man vehicle, go with batteries and LEDs (strips, bulbs, washes, string lights, etc). There are tons of reasonably priced options out there and you will be plenty bright. Nightime is basically 7pm-5am, so powering 10 hours of lights isn't as tough as it used to be. Don't bother w...

Re: Tires
The guiding principal is that your MV shouldn't look like the original base vehicle. If covering the wheels helps it look more like whatever it's supposed to be (cow, head, couch, etc), then that's preferable.

I've seen a lot of mackie tops overheating in the daytime- even not in direct sunlight - requiring fans and other cooling mechanisms. Newer models might be more durable, however.

I'm facing the same problem - but mine is much smaller... Take a look at uship.com. You post your shipping details (size, weight, origin, destination, etc), and truckers bid on moving it for you. U-ship is also the basis for the tv reality show "Shipping Wars" on which they ship all kinds of crazy s...

Please Reconsider Tier Prices This Year
Please reconsider the Tier prices this year. I am not too worried about the lottery system - it will make it more onerous for people to get tickets, but they will be available. However, the increase in ticket prices is a concern. Last year the majority of attendees could find tickets for $240 or $28...
