8:00 Neighborhood Camps
Great burning with you all this year 8:00-ers. We were at, about 8:05 and J, at the Disco Snowman Inferno, you may have noticed our Snowman, discoball, tiki bar, sperm:egg run, and subtle beats laid down by MJ and Frank. Really enjoyed the 'hood, hope you all did as well. Until next year. - Navigator

Hurricane Relief at Burning Man
I haven't seen a definitive number, but I did come across the following quote(and astounding number!) by Mark Morford from the SF Chronicle: But here's the thing: While the circumstances and the remoteness of the event meant most Burning Man participants had little or no idea of the extent of Katrin...

Friends, We are home and yet, now, not home Torn from the brilliant bosom of the Playa New friends and old scattered about, to the dust Devils, Back to whence we came, Making us wonder what is home... where am I now? this alien, harsh landscape, a mirage, a figment, of that which was but is now diff...

Roll up them sleeves and let's get to work...
This is a good starting list. okay, so here is what would be needed to pull it off: 1. volunteers for the virgin roundup 2. clothing and crap for decoration and a place to do it. 3. a band to acompany the virgin art march 4. a place to do the art and a shipload of supplies 5. a place to display the ...

Hmmm indeed....
OK, I hear that and I agree - nothing you read and nothing anyone tells you will quite prepare you - you're going to be a deer in headlights...at least at first - that's part of the fun. If, by chance, all of my interactions at BM had been with other newbies, just as shell-shocked as I, not yet open...

Bringing newbies into the fold... an idea.
(this was posted to another discussion and it was suggested that I make it it's own topic) So, this issue about how to deal with so many newcomers and how to keep the "spirit" of burning man alive clearly touches a nerve... So...an idea... This was my first Burn and I went with a camp of other newb...

(I posted this in another forum, but I think it applies here as well - so sorry for the dup.) So, this issue about how to deal with so many newcomers and how to keep the "spirit" of burning man alive clearly touches a nerve... So...an idea... So, this issue about how to deal with so many newcomers and how to keep the "spirit" of burning man alive clearly touches a nerve... So...an idea... This was my first Burn and I went with a camp of other newbies w/o any old-timers among us. So it was up to us to "get it," to find a way to participat...

Share your Burning Man Resolutions!
Just 'cause there's 358 days before the next Burn doesn't have to mean that all is lost between now and then! What promises did you make for/to yourself after the Burn to carry into the real world? Any resolutions out there ? Share share share... Here's mine: To hang on, with all my mental might, to...

an incredible gift..
Some time after the Burn(my first), while walking the Esplanade in an "elevated state" (also for the first time on a particular substance), saying hi to everyone I could and hugging most, I was given the most amazing gift... I came across a group of really sweet people walking the Esplanade and afte...

Saying hello to strangers...
Heeding your advice, I've been working on saying hello to, and smiling at, strangers... So, on the bus this morning I saw this girl reading a rather depressing book I'd read some time back (the best democracy money can buy), she looked up, I said hi, we started chatting and sure enough she just got ...

It was amazing...
I like how you said that - it seems that you can, in fact, explain it... ;-) Yeah, it was my first Burn too. And, it's funny, in retrospect I didn't think I'd have anywhere near the kind of experience I had. I'd read so many posts in this forum about how so many of the newbies just observe and don't...

Thanks - this helps a lot...
Thanks all for your advice - it helps... The avoiding TV thang seems to be key - in fact, avoiding information in general seems to be key. I'm trying to keep a keen eye on my reactions to the real world - in particular those things that trigger stress - and I get away fast! So far, this has included...

observations from another newbie
Wow, awesome stuff! This was also my first Burning Man, and I'm still waiting for someone to pinch me and tell me it was all a dream. I went with four other friends, all newbies, as it just so happened that all of our "old-timer" friends were taking a break this year. In retrospect this was both goo...

great stuff - thanks for posting these!
these are some great shots - particularly the night shots - mine came out so poorly, it's fantastic to see these!
btw, do you know or has anyone seen a night shot panorama around the esplanade? it sounded really cool, but I never got around to taking it...
thanks again!

adjusting to the real world - helpful hints from old timers?
Well crap. This is really tough. First off, being back at work after Burning Man sucks. I had no idea it would be this way! The real world is, well, lame... Here I am, back at work, day dreaming about riding through the playa, walking the esplanade with old and new friends, still basking in this ama...
