Re: Black Rock Observatory FUNdRAISER
Thanks so much for your support!!! Black Rock City has a fair amount of light pollution, so dont expect the dark skies of the playa without the burn happening, but itll be pretty good. The Moon will be very bright this year so the distant, faint stuff may be a challenge, but mountains, craters and l...

Black Rock Observatory FUNdRAISER
Last year, we were truly honored by the response from the community and we're thrilled to come back in 2015. Our handmade giant telescope's mirror will reveal distant wonders no other at our Carnival can. Please donate whatever you're comfortable with and share with your friends and network. We need...

Re: Black Rock Observatory
Hey Dan!
if the Moon is invisible at the horizon, you gotta roll your big machine over here so we can see your Moon instead. We can probably give you a proper rectal exam with the scope! Love your project!!!

Re: Black Rock Observatory
Wow, I missed a lot here, we're spinning many plates. We're definitely bringing a big scope and a dome, I have a 20" f4.5 mirror on my dining room table right now and 2,500 pounds of imported Latvian birch sitting at a CNC shop ready to be cut next week. http://blackrockobservatory.com http://www.bl...

Re: Black Rock Observatory
Thanks again for your support everyone! People are coming out of the wood work to offer their support, it looks like we're building some momentum. We'll likely shoot for a deep playa location, I think if we were in walk-in camping or some off-site location would reduce foot traffic. You can see Satu...

Re: Black Rock Observatory
Thanks everyone for your support! There a handful of targets well within our reach even from urban skies with a lot of light pollution, so even with art cars and laser beams and such, we should have some jaw-dropping views of Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon, and a couple of bright nebulas, glubular cluste...

Black Rock Observatory
Hello fellow citizens! Another great burn and decompression have passed and it's time to start thinking and planning for BRC 2014 and this town needs an observatory! The group that brought you the L.A. CORE in 2012, the Human Spirit to L.A. Decompression and the Mars Rover Art Car to Cargo Cult is n...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Figjam & all, I just wanted to thank you and this thread for ruining my Burning Man experience! After reading this thread and making my own cooler, I set up my hexayurt and cooler on Monday. When it got hot Monday afternoon, my wife and kid and I took a nap and slept through Burning Man. Thanks a lo...

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
So I was one of the unlucky ones, kind of. The good news: I have two tickets. The bad news: I got caught up in the STEP queue, received my email the day I left for Reno to work on Burn Wall Street. I clicked and got the error message that stated email was sent in error. Of course, when I got back fr...

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
I'd say the percentage of STEP children would be higher than 1%, cause we're all nervous and need info.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Another email lie. I checked my email in bed 1st thing this morning and then was up and awake because of the news and coffee, but alas, nothing now but Sunday morning quiet house here, wife and baby sleeping and tiny bit of disappointment mixed with caffeine high. I still have hope. I'm heading up t...

Re: Amateur astronomers, unite!
I agree that it wouldn't be observable in a practical manner there. I may actually bring a 8" scope to the playa this year and have been toying with the idea of an observatory. Has anyone here seen it done before? I found some information on one built in 2004, but ran into deadends.
