Join the Lamplighting procession any evening - we need you!
http://i.imgur.com/PxYAS9Ml.jpg Photo by John Curley via the Burning Man Blog E very culture has its traditions. The Lamplighters are a group of volunteers whose solemn, parade-like procession marks the transition from day to night in Black Rock City. Wearing distinctive white robes with flames, we...

Always happy to meet a disciple of His Noodley Appendage. scout Lamplighters Center Camp (~5:45ish) I'll be there every afternoon starting around 5pm. Christopher Walk-In Camp will be located in the very east corner at 2:15 of the walk-in camp area. Our little oasis will be offering all things Chris...

Re: The Temple Salvagers?
I remember that we were not permitted to scavenge the lanterns the night of temple burn this year; our guys in firefighter gear were turned away. My memory is a bit hazy, but I believe they might also have been turned away Monday morning only to pick up the lanterns later that day. As you can imagin...

Re: Loved & Unnatural - my new short film about 4 years attending the burn.
I wouldn't have thought to pair The Great Dictator with burn footage. I was surprised at how well it worked, emotionally and technically. I don't consider myself a rabid "the burn changed my life" type, but then I do certainly plan my year around it and have sunk a lot of unneeded money into it. And...

Thoroughly enjoyed! Loved the interviews with the artists, ESD, etc. I especially got some retroactive insight into the Catacombs.

:D :D :D Finally moved it under pumping power last night! Exhilirating! Steering's in good shape, too, with some tweaks on the way. Brakes are nearing completion, still need to route brake lines. All kind of plans for next steps, including wheel covers, decking, undercarriage storage compartments, p...

Thanks for the input, fellas! The pillow block bearings do have zerk fittings, so that should help.
I'll be posting more updates as things move along. We're hoping to get drive train in by Sunday, as we're starting to have second thoughts about our current gear ratio.

I sure hope we're neighbors, Tango'd Up in Blues! It's so lovely to have you nearby every year - what you guys bring is wonderful and very, very welcome. I recall a pleasant afternoon learning some tai chi on that quadruple-sprung dance floor, and I know several of my fellow lamplighter villagers ar...

Re: Spiritual and Meditation Journey Suggestions
My #1 rule of enjoying Burning Man: don't make decisions based on fear of missing out .* If you're dead set on setting destinations and expectations for yourself, which as a whole the members of this board passionately recommend against (see rule #1), then my suggestion would be to peruse the art in...

Re: How do you keep medical devices clean/safe?
I know sign language, its easy..... Carry a marker board and some markers. Write on the sign....... A prominent lamplighter villager is mute as a result of surgery and communicates this way. Totally do-able out there! Make sure to have plenty of dry-erase markers, some sort of eraser, and keep ever...

Re: How do you keep medical devices clean/safe?
Hiya, panda - welcome to eplaya and to the burn! I love that you're taking both a proactive "how can I plan ahead of time?" approach and a flexible "if the implants don't work, I'm still game to enjoy!" approach. If you haven't heard of them, Da Dirty Hands is a camp for burners who are deaf (and, I...

I thought that was a great location for you guys last year, especially considering how much interactive frontage your setup has (plus potentially more space at the piano?). Hope you feel the same!Elliot wrote:4:30 Plaza at 4:29, Man Side.

Can't help with the RV, but eplayans lucky420 and tamarakay have experience with dyeing on the playa, so if you're planning to do that activity out there (participation!) rather than just bringing the end products, why not have a look at their advice? http://www.dyewithdignity.com/ Welcome to eplaya.

Dear Avacadi and Perpetual (and anyone else interested!), you absolutely can become Lamplighters. It's one of the volunteer opportunities on playa that takes the least pre-planned commitment. I could easily divert this thread to an impassioned description of how easy it is to become a Lamplighter, w...

Re: The Temple Salvagers?
Every year the Lamplighters place broken/malfunctioning lanterns in the temple, often just before the temple is cordoned off. We place them with particular villagers in mind - each lantern commemorates loved ones lost or hardships faced and passed through. As soon as the perimeter around the temple ...
