Marketplace Back on ...?

Does anyone know when the marketplace will be back up? Also, does anyone know the dimensions of the 2011 poster?

Burning The Man: Burning Man’s Ticket (& PR) Fiasco FEBRUARY 7, 2012 tags: Burning Man, Burning Man Ticket Fiasco, Crisis PR tips By Alyssa Royse I miss PR. I was good at it. Hell, there was a time when both Fast Company and PR News declared me one of the best. Not because I liked working a bill...

Re: Pay Gate Workers/Names on THIS YEAR'S tickets

by my guestimate and back of the napkin math youd need over 30 gate booths to make names/tickets workable without noticeable delays assuming that you check every ticket. If you check 30% of tickets that would be 9 gate booths, 20% would be 6, 10% would be 3. This could be adjusted for for peak time...

Pay Gate Workers/Names on THIS YEAR'S tickets

In various threads about the Gate, one of the problems mentioned was that there aren't always enough volunteers, and those that do volunteer don't always show up (causing the biggest problem during peak times) This could be alleviated with paid staff. With paid staff you can increase the number of p...

We'll see how they handle it, but at least it''s an acknowledgement that there's a problem. The solutions they propose will tell us what we really need to know, but I think this is a step in the right direction.

Re: Ticket fiasco reaction from the LLC

I don't love this. Tickets should be free-roaming and transferrable. But tickets would still be free roaming and transferable, just without a scalping charge and for those that will actually attend. There are some additional work-arounds that would need to be set up and can be addressed to minimize...

Re: Do the math: over 50% of tickets went to scalpers

I haven't heard of many people in the Reno burner community that ended up with extra tickets. And though I by no means know everyone, people at burner friendly places like The Melting Pot haven't heard of many extra tickets either. It really is a question of "where did they all go?"

one ticket per person seems to be the best option... or maybe these 10,000 could be: 1) held at will call like the low income tix 2) have names/photos/whatever on them so they're directly linked to a person 3) be Fed Ex'ed 10 days before the event to prevent much time on the scalping market (oversea...

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread

Just a random thought, are those who were denied tickets going to be the squeaky wheels and skew the perception of how many burners got tickets? 10 people shouting is louder then 1000 people rejoicing? And not on eplaya? the question is, where did the tickets go (and what are people going to do wit...

Re: Scalping Discussion

Actually, the winner so far is the community. On an unrestricted open sale, scalpers could easily grab thousands upon thousands of the available tickets (which they do every day) and put them on sale via auction sites, ticket resale sites, and their own web sites. Hopefully those numbers stay low. ...

yeah, checking ID's.......it's not like going to a concert: vehicles have to be searched, if a vehicles has many participants within, they all have to get out, and hand their ticket over one at a time....... I checked StubHub an hour ago, and already 82 BM 2012 tickets being scalped for $625-1500. Burning Man Lottery FAIL! This new system has got to go! I don't see the problem with asking for a document to prove why you should be eligible for low income. And cast my voice with those pointing out the issues with 'name on ticket'. I know I'll catch flak from the exact people I'm speaking about in this sentance for saying this, but if you have not ru...

so if putting a name on the ticket is a problem because it (supposedly) slows down entry to the event, why not go entirely to will call tickets, but instead of people picking them up on the playa, have them pick them up at a Reno location starting three days before the burn/early entry/whatever. where's the outcry from BMORG's civil libertarians about having to provide financial documentation, surely something more invasive than an ID check.

low income tickets will require financial documentation, can only be picked up at the gate (will call), and will be non-transferable. Test run for new system next year?

By the way, people are already talking about how to game the system for next year by registering for serious amounts of tickets, using credit and home equity lines, knowing they won't lose any money and would easily make 20% without even trying (think how many burners would pay $500 to get a ticket)...

BMORG's plan will eliminate most scalping. And we will be greeted as liberators in Iraq. The war will be quick and pay for itself. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

More likely people will forget a ticket than ID, so the turning around cars rationale doesn't seem compelling. I'm sure some people aren't okay with vehicles being searched... others with not being able to bring firearms (no more drive by shooting galleries)... others with the rules on photography.....
