Re: Bicycle Advise for a Scottish Traveller
Only buy a bike if you have a specific plan to donate it somewhere that can actually use it afterwards... tons of bicycles get left behind every year and are a big, sucky problem. There are tons of Burning Man bike "rental" services, from Playa Bike Repair, Hammer & Cyclery, the Kiwanis program in R...

Re: What bins are good for the Container?
The Hive containers from Boston will almost definitely be on A, as the Hive stretches from Esplanade to A. We were lucky enough to have the containers on a corner last year, so you could drive directly to them to pick up / drop off. Note that your stuff may be below the container, or next to it, onc...

Re: Help - Don't know where to post - Event at Camp
Seriously, don't underestimate the power of a sandwich board or a big dry-erase board in front of your camp for getting the word out on events. Lots of people never even really look at the booklet, and just let serendipity guide them around the city.

Re: How much space should I buy on the NYC container?
Mostly likely 48 quart coolers; they would be 12 gallon coolers (4 quarts to a gallon). 48 gallon coolers would be... something. The reason Vulture can fit a bike box into a 14-15 cubic foot share is it's going to be tall and long, but very "skinny". A box five long and three feet tall but only one ...

We just received notification that Camp Cats!Cats!Cats! will be bowed up and pissing on everything in the vicinity of 7:15 and Horny. Man, your camp's middle of the night grilled cheese party absolutely saved me last year; I was crashing really hard due to skipping dinner (dumb, I know), and that f...

Re: How much space should I buy on the NYC container?
Are you sure that's all you need? 3 cubic feet, for example, would be one container 3 feet long by one foot wide by one foot tall. That's very small. The air mattress rolled up, alone, probably fills that space. You need to multiply out in all dimensions. A box 3' by 2' by 1' is 6 cubic feet. 3' by ...

Re: Canopy for Springbar tent? Suggestions?
How much extra habitable time do you estimate you get in your tent with the aluminet? What size do you use? I have no idea, really, as I've never done it another way. I definitely am not up when the sun comes up, so maybe an extra hour or two? It does heat up eventually though. I use a 21' by 15' o...

Re: Canopy for Springbar tent? Suggestions?
The only other thought I've had about shading my Kodiak has been to string an emergency blanket over the roof of my tent, using the exposed points of the flex-rod as tie-on points. Basically I'd lay an emergency blanket over my tent (not nearly large enough to cover it, so maybe I'd need two...), t...

Also, camps can and do move from year to year, sometimes quite drastically. The large-scale sound camps will be on 2 and 10, Center Camp will be Center Camp, but nothing else placement-wise is guaranteed from year to year.

Re: Looking for 2 ppl to share our RV with
The RV can sleep 5 people but we are just as happy if its just 4 people. Couple in the back bed, couple or single person in the over-the-cab bed, small or adaptable person on either the couch-bed or the table-bed. Any more than that and you are asking for a less-than-perfect week. . Double-plus on ...

Yeah, unless you've promised to help your camp tear down and pack up Sunday and are somehow instrumental or vital to that process, or for some reason you *absolutely* *must* see the Temple burn, don't bother coming back for Sunday.

Re: Give your virgin self ONE piece of advice...
My biggest piece of advice to my virgin self would be "Some of the best experiences you will have will be deeper into the city; don't limit yourself to just the Esplanade and Inner Playa" My first year was with a huge theme camp on the Esplanade, so I spent the first 2/3 of my burn without ever real...

Re: New Theme Camp Frustration
Also, 40 seems pretty big for a brand new camp. It's not just the power structure of the three leaders; at that size you need either well-honed systems in place that can rein in playa anarchy that only come with stable leadership, or very clear areas of responsibility with people you can trust in va...

Oh, and also, consider getting in touch with the BRC Dept of Mobility: http://brcmobility.com/start-here/ They're a theme camp, but even if you don't camp with them, they organize deep-playa art tours on MVs, etc, for the mobility-challenged. I think they also loan out golf-carts and stuff for short...

Or is this also supposed to cover your ticket, travel costs, etc? People will probably be far more amenable...

The resellers tactics are to find people like your camp who are freaking, get them to pay a premium price for something the seller doesn't even have, then the seller goes & buys it cheaper when they become available in July-ish, and passes it on at the jacked up price to you. I also can't stress enough the need to have a good organization system once you hit the playa, i.e. "your clothes are in this mini-closet, my clothes are in this mini-closet, snacks are in this shelf, this drawer is for communal glowy crap" etc etc. It's reallllly easy to let stuff get disorganized,...
