Re: RZ Mask vs. Respro

Masks are uncomfortable, it's just the nature of the beasts, if anything the RZ is slightly less hot than the respro, but the respro I've got has a chemical and particle filter, and the RZ has only a particle filter, so there's less material there. Both are more comfortable than my respirator (which...

Re: RZ Mask vs. Respro

My wife and I got respro techno masks for last year (and they were indeed overkill for last years conditions). My wifes was great, I however turn out to need an extra large, which they only make in one style and that i would need to order from england (and it costs 33 pounds) So i got a RZ mask for ...

I did well with aspen pads, I had them sandwiched between window screening, shed like hell getting them cut and set up, but they were fine once they were enclosed.

NO, no everyone, this is what we need. Sure 161 burners don't get to go... Claiming there are only 161 people who can't get tickets is going to get you in trouble with the 20000 or so who can't get tickets. Don't minimize our pain, maaaan. Hey man, don't stick me with that, the full quote is "...

Re: Why Are So Few Tickets Being Scalped

Scalpers aren't going to list many tickets this early. They'll put up some postings on Stubhub etc., to gauge interest, but there's no point to trying to sell while people are still hoping to get some from STEP and via the Theme Camp sale. Once THAT's over, you can expect to see the sales start. Th...

Re: Sick with DISAPPOINTMENT

NO, no everyone, this is what we need. Sure 161 burners don't get to go because .3% of tickets sold ended up in the hands of scalpers, but something like 13,000 people don't get to go because of the BLM cap on our population. We need more people like dragonslayer who are willing to stand up and say ...

Re: Comparison to another first case of lottery.

I'd also say that the adrenaline of this years lottery is nothing compared to the adrenaline of competing heads up with every other burner and scalper out there to try to connect with the ticketing server at the same time, and the slow play out of ticket emails this year was nothing compared to the...

So much for the LOTTERY!!![attachment=0]4460450363_4668c02004_z.jpg But Cap'n, clearly no tickets went to scalpers, 70k plus new people saw a youtube video and decided to spe...

Re: Comparison to another first case of lottery.

While the proposed lottery is less craptacular than the current lottery system, perhaps even solving some of the current system's more significant failings, I still prefer a first-come-first-serve deterministic system that avoids game theory/psychology. I think non-transferable/STEP-transferable ti...

Re: Comparison to another first case of lottery.

I think non-transferable non-returnable non-refundable tickets would be cool. You sign up for a ticket under your name and if you can't go that's a $300 donation you just made to the event. That way people would have to be damn sure of their plans and tickets would sell at a much slower rate. If yo...

You don't have to believe it for it to be true. Nah, but when we're all pulling guesses out of our asses, being statistically plausible is better. :D Here's some statistically playable theory then. (people trying to go * amount of cheating)+scalpers = ~120,000 ticket requests. My personal "abo...

Re: Suggested Solution to BM Ticket Sale Dilemma For 2013

Until a better way is developed to deal with scalpers and to encourage use of STEP, give the people who place a ticket into STEP a preference for getting a ticket next year. I think you'll see a lot of push back on that idea, as the general perception is that the only people who have tickets to put...

I went the freeze dried backpacking food (mountain house brand) route, which has a lot of the benefits of MREs (no refrigeration needed, easy storage, low effort), and have the benefit of being pretty tasty (if occasionally soupy). Skimmed it, 2 obvious errors, first they say that the number of ticket requests isn't known when Marion said that ticket request were just shy of 3 times the number of tickets available (which we all round to 120,000 requests for ease of math), and second they assert that tier 1 tickets were drawn f...

I took the Alternative energy zone tour last year, and there as a gent who had a water recycling system set up. So I've seen the idea of widening the 447 go by a few times from people who aren't aware of just how enormously expensive that would be given paving is a huge cost, and on top you have to buy the land, and it's a really long distance to upgrqade. Here's my hopped up on crack variation on the theme. ...

Last year wasn't a fiasco at all- there were tickets on sale for 7 months & plenty of "hints" to buy a ticket now , before the sell-out happened. The only "fiasco" was all those people who ignored the warnings & then blamed everyone else. I'm not saying last years sell o...

I just spent a while trawling the 2011 ticket forums and I have a couple of thoughts Everyone was calling last years ticketing a "fiasco", if that was a fiasco we need a new word for this year, or, we all just like the word fiasco to much (mmmmm, fiasco, it is fun to say). In hindsight, ho...

Re: New Blog - Ticket Update: Rebuilding Black Rock City 201

The old system allowed well organized singles, couples and camps to get their tickets up at the start of the year and then focus on their lives and playa plans. Even though the event sold out last year I was still able to buy my ticket on June 5 and then buy a second ticket on July 3. If the ticket...

Well, what I had typed was just overtaken by events, they are down to just having bad choices and worse choices aren't they. The only bit I've got that is still applicable, is that if they continue to reserve tickets for theme camps in the future (and i suspect they will), then the system for choosi...

Last year I got into the line to leave at noon on monday, the worst time possible I realize, only after I was in line did I think to hit the radio, and the radio was saying "The gate tells us to tell you to not leave the city, if you possibly can, stay until tomorrow", so the option is on ...

Re: Positive Suggestions for Fixing What Is Obviously Broken

I still think the FCFS ticket system is the most fair at this point, in that it did not let me down in previous years. Seems we can't have paper tix and have this work, so we need to go to a non-transferable ticket scenario. The problem is that this year is not previous years. Last year sold out an...

You keep saying this, and I believe your logic is incorrect. Yes, it is 120,000 tickets requested, and yes it was 1.7 tickets per request, so that means there were 70588 requests, but that doesn't mean that only 70588 people want to go. If I put in 1 request for 2 tickets it doesn't mean just I wan...
