Amphibia - what's happening there?
Emissaries from the planet Amphibia will be landing their mothership at Esplanade near 6:30. Here are our major events: Tuesday, August 28th at 9:00 PM ArcheDream for Humankind will present DEEP BLUE, a fantastic, blacklight voyage that takes you way up high into the sky and low, below into the sea....

Torch did not quite work
We tried the torch technique yesterday and it helped some but it was still pretty easy to knock fibers off the edge of the carpet.
Any other ideas?

Try a sand filter
We have used a sand filter for the past few years for our kitchen waste water. It works really well. Get a small trash can with a lid, cut a hole near the bottom and glue (silicone) in a pvc fitting that will take a 2-diameter flexible plastic hose. The hose drains into your evap pond. Put about 4 i...

Carpet edges and escaping fibers
What is a cheap way to treat the edges of scrap pieces of carpeting to stop the fibers from escaping and becoming a big MOOP problem? We have over 2000 square feet of carpeting for our camp so whatever solution we use needs to be cheap and not too time consuming. We already tried duct tape and it do...

Putting up a big dome
I designed the 60-foot, 4v dome in Entheon Village last year. We tried a test set up before bringi it to the playa and only got half of it up building from the ground up. We needed dozens of poles with "crotches" to hold the hubs up. A 60-foot dome is 30 feet tall making it impossible to reach the t...

conceptually green
My "good" advice is, if you want to be green, don't go to Burning Man. Am I going to take my own advice? No. In fact we are hauling more stuff to Black Rock City than we ever have before. We are bringing Amphibia, a theme camp that will be a large-ish chill space within a 65-foot diameter dome. Amph...

Batteries for Amphibia
We could use a couple of batteries for our 2007 camp Amphibia. I live in Arizona but I have contacted a camp member who lives in S.F. to see if she is interested in getting them for us - if you still have some.

Greywater treatment
We have used a sand filter for the last two years to filter dish and cooking water before putting it into our evap pond. The pond stays much cleaner by the end of the week and doesn't end up being a smelly mess. We use a small trash can with a 1 1/2 inch outlet hole at the bottom and a length of pla...

Discovery Channel at BM 2005
I saw the Discovery Times channel’s Only In America episode on Burning Man. I thought it was pretty well balanced for a mainstream cable TV show. It neither promoted the event nor discouraged people from attending. The guy in the show did some lame things (like egging the man) but all of us have our...

Megapixels
Your project sounds great! Count me in on a pixel or three. Here's yet another idea to consider on how to build it on the playa. Start with your 1 meter colored squares/pixels. Sew them into 3 meter by 3 meter squares (9 pixels per square) and put a grommet in each corner. The stitches must be very ...

more art but different
My initial impression was that there was less art this year but, after further examination, I realized that there was a lot of art. There were a lot of pieces this year that were experiential installations involving sound, light, or intellectual concept that had a minimal visual impact. For example,...
