Re: Death count at Burning Man
I actually saw the sky diver come down with a tangled chute on Wednesday afternoon. I heard later from a ranger that he lived.

Re: Alright, let's hear the best and worst from 2012
Best: Getting a taste of whiteout conditions on Thursday pre event. It was kind of nice to get the acclimatizing and near dehydration out of the way quickly. Purple palace rocking out our last build night on Saturday pregate. Getting corralled on my bike by the serpent twins. A surprise ice cream sa...

Re: Is this a scam?
Directed tickets for art projects are using a time sensitive code which does expire if the ticket is not purchased in time. We actually just submitted our final request for tickets for the CORE project last week. However those tickets are for core artists and helpers.

Re: Melting point of Brass?
After hearing some of the replies here, I don't think I have anything to worry about. Our DG pad will be BORG approved and the fire won't get all too hot. I asked because I couldn't find any info about it on the main BM site. They mention aluminum, but not brass.

Re: Melting point of Brass?
That's some good info, thanks. The BMORG is providing a 3 inch thick pad of decomposed granite for burn scar prevention. Well, they're providing us the material for it, and cleaning it up after the burn. I'll have to check with the Artery to see if this something they may have more info on. UFO, If ...

Re: Advice for Leading a Project
We had our conference call with the BORG this week. We are on track with all of our leads, working out some ticket issues, planning our camp and working out early arrivals. We have an early crew of 8; 2 fluffers, and 6 builders. The sculpture will be built modularly, bolting together pieces that are...

Re: Temporary Land Art
Yeah, after conference calls with the BORG yesterday, I now know I will be busy from Wednesday before the event until after burn cleanup Friday at noon. A lot of that will just be docent duties, and I'm totally looking forward to talking to people about our art. So glad I got hooked up with the CORE...

Re: Temporary Land Art
I'm abandoning this project for the year. I will be far too busy with the build lead position on the CORE project to take on too much extra. I do need a few days on playa to just explore and roam. If anyone thinks this is a good idea, feel free to do it!

Re: Melting point of Brass?
Thanks for the replies. The CORE projects will all have DG pads for burn scar protection, and I don't think it will melt unless we use a bellows.

So, three mice are sitting at a bar, talking about how tough they are. Mouse 1: I'm so tough, I grab the bar on the mousetraps and bench press that shit. Mouse 2: Oh yeah, well I crush up poison pellets and snort it like it's cocaine. Mouse 3 gets up and starts walking away. Mouse 2: Where ya going?...

Melting point of Brass?
We just received a bunch of broken cymbals from a drummer friend. We are planning on cutting these up and these for accents on the Dragon Lotus effigy. I found out that the melting point of brass is 1710 degrees Fahrenheit. Will this melt in the burn, creating an uncleanable moop disaster? All the i...

fbcota, Thank you for the wisdom! A lot of these are things that we are already doing, such as the delegating, trying not to micro manage, and the praise. We try hard to make our volunteers feel welcome and appreciated, and many of them keep coming back. I love our crew! :D Our crew is going through...

Re: Advice for Leading a Project
It is fun! Getting together with a group of like-minded individuals to make art is the way I prefer to spend my free time. I came very close to burnout right before our last fundraiser, but I think that had more to do with 12 hour days at my real job, and prepping for the party every night. Our buil...

I keep my beard well trimmed. I have to carve out a shape that accentuates the good parts and hides the bad parts. If I let it grow, it quickly encroaches on my eyesight and starts a commune with my chest hair.

Re: Time for a Happy Thread
I am extremely grateful to the BMORG for approving all of the C.O.R.E. projects! 35 this year! While this means I won't be able to attend the M&G on Thursday, it means that for my first year on the playa, I will be part of an amazing art project with some wonderful and talented people. I hope many o...
