Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

Just a little perspective in this 747 "Art project" https://techcrunch.com/2018/09/25/the-death-of-once-high-flying-vc-funds/ "That same article noted in its intro that “It is not every day that someone buys a Boeing 747 as a gift. But that was exactly what Jonathan Teo did last year, when he gather...

Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

Full disclosure: I hate the 747. As someone who has worked their ass of to bring different art projects to the playa and I consider myself radically inclusive, I’m still entitled to my opinion that this is a lame as shit, overly ostentatious display of wealth. “Look what kind of logistics we can pu...

It has a permit, and it's going to be in it's private-land docking spot, which it's only yards away from, next week after ground prep is done. It isn't moop, abandoned, unlicensed, or any of that other fake news. Reno Gazette isn't fake news. Apparently the BLM didn't get your memo that everything ...

Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

Just making reference to the fate of La Contessa, the circumstances being vaguely similar and all... Comparing the Contessa with the 747 I think highlight a lot about how the event has changed. They're both big and kind of shit-shows but the similarities end there. The Contessa was emblematic of th...

Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

From 9/14/18 Reno Gazette Journal.... "The largest art car at Burning Man, a partially reassembled 747 airplane, remains parked on the Black Rock Desert two weeks after the event. The plane was moved further into the hard-packed playa about 12 miles away from the Burning Man site, said Rudy Evenson,...

Re: Burning Man & Mental Illness: Navigating Sober

Last year was my first year, and while it was an amazing experience, it was also incredibly isolating. I felt like I was surrounded by so many people (including my camp mates) that were enjoying their burn with the help of different intoxicants, and I couldn't meet them at their level. The result w...

Let the ranting begin!

Does anyone else find it obnoxious that BMORG/LLC/BMProject inserted a compulsory quiz on the ticketing page. I mean what kind of nanny-state crap is that? Before you get the privilege to spend $500 on a ticket, you must read our BS propaganda and answer our ideology questions correctly. In case you...

Re: A visit to Fly Ranch (and a request for feedback!)

Thanks for sharing this. I've been wondering what they've been up to with Fly Ranch. Sounds like not much currently. Frankly, a year-round intentional arts-spiritual-healing-thinktank community and retreat center that hosts events on a much smaller scale could be really interesting. But as always it...

Re: Vandals Strike 2016 Sound Camp Infrastructure

I think the rise of social media began the demise. Once that BM video went viral on Gawker etc etc, thousand of people sat up and said "ooh I've never heard of that, it looks awesome!", and BM was suddenly on the radar of people from all walks of life, society and wealth. Some of those coming from ...

Supposedly it happened at "The Lost Hotel." You might remember this plug-n-play group from such catastrophes as Caravancicle (aka the camp that led to Tannenbaum being booted form the BMORG board).

Looks like this was not a good year for douchey plug-n-play camps.

Actually its Tech Douche vs pop-EDM Ravers. Tech Douche is way ahead on the scoreboard with several BMorg board members and now even their very own BM employee, sorry "brand ambassador." Meanwhiles Ravers are getting trounced by having their sound art-cars banned, suffering under new rules for MV' s...

Is there a best of ePlaya? Because I would nominate this for it? "I have everything I need but wants lot of stuff. Also I don't want to pay for anything."

I don't think pointing out the multiple levels of inherent contradictions in these statements should be considered snark.

Re: Are you losing interest in Burning Man too?

I've been going for 12 consecutive years and this year is most likely my last. The reason is not for any of the "burning man has changed" reasons, that's a phase I went through years ago and have already come to acceptance with. Over the year BM shifted, for me, from a year-round project and an iden...

Live Conga Drumming to accompany DJ

Hello there, I am a long-time afro-cuban percussionist looking to perform along-side DJs at BRC this year. I have a set of 3 congas that I play and would need a stationary spot, ideally mic'd. Congas go very well as accompaniment with a lot of electronic music (sampled relentlessly in house music), ...

I wish my camp had a big sound system to offer you but please post your eventual slot on here. Or I guess I'll look you up on Rockstar Librarian.

I have to say, its nice to see that with enough bitching and moaning by the community, the BMORG can still be made to respond in some fashion. In his defense, these practices of paid staff, wristbands, etc have been around for years. He's likely stayed on those camps. For him, that IS Burning Man. And no one in the organization taught him any differently. Instead, he was REWARDED for his way of burning by being given a leadership position....
