Two batteries, connected in parallel (both negatives together, both positives together) should give you decent running time if you're down under 200 watts. Okay great, easy enough. Any suggestions on which batteries I should get: deep cycle marine vs. regular car? Should I hit a certain price point...

To give you usable answers, we'll need to know a few things. Do you want full regular size household type bulbs? How many bulbs will your sign need? That example sign looks like about 8 or 9 bulbs per letter. Common "40 watt equivalent" LED bulbs draw about 8 watts each, so that's roughly 70 watts ...
