Re: Sharing Large Generator

PapC: it's one thing to connect with people ahead of time and make arrangements to share costs and logistics on a project, such as neighboring camps making arrangements to share a generator. I don't think there's anything wrong with posting on Eplaya in June to see if anyone is interested in partner...

Re: Improvements & Upgrades to the FIGJAM bucket evap. cooler

You don't need any additional air filters.
The damp blue pad itself acts as a dust filter and cooling surface. The FJ design is simple and efficient as is.

#5: Fence-post pounders don't work that great on Rebar and not any easier than a sledge, in my exp. A sledge hammer and good set of work gloves and some muscle is about perfect. 14 stakes is not that bad. Bring vice grips and/or crow bar to remove. Lag-screws and impact driver is a preferred alterna...

Re: What happens if your camp is placed but doesn't have enough tickets?

In the latest Placement email newsletter, they said that placed camps are taking more space than ever, leaving less open space for general camping, and they asked camps to welcome/allow open campers into their space, so if you end up with more room than you need, due to lack of tickets, I'm sure peo...

Re: Need Deep Cycle/Inverter Recommendations

Sent you a PM with some links. I have used an inexpensive Bestek 400w inverter from the "rain forest" for 5 yrs with good luck--for the basics (charge cameras, run LEDs and small stereo, etc). Didn't run A/C or any major appliances tho. But still going strong. Inverter needs to be keep cool and out ...

Re: Tandem bike thoughts & experiences

Dusty Romance, never had it to lose!! Haha good point. But seriously I had a campmate once that was "not good at biking" and it became a drag having to babysit and coddle just to get from Point A to B. I think with an entire summer in front of you, a few training rides would be a good idea. There ar...

Uh, yeah do you want to be almost literally attached at the hip for the whole week? If not, you have a whole summer to get better at riding a solo bike.

Re: Geodesic Question

You can save money and materials with a 2v dome. (Longer but fewer poles.)
We use a 2v at about 30ft diam. The bonus is that the 10ft long poles from the store don't need to be cut down at all. You only have to cut the shorter struts.
The bummer is you need a larger vehicle to haul the longer poles.

Cool mod. Question, are you mounting the fan on top of the bucket lid? So the fan unit is on the exterior?
Or mounted internally inside the bucket? Thanks

Hey, you can put a heavy duty washer on the lag first, then the chain link. That way you don't have to find an exact fit in the size of the chain.

Re: cooling your tent or van

A few drops of household bleach in a 3 gallons of water is less chlorine inhalation you'd experience from the air offgassing at a pool or hot tub. Washington Health Dept recommends 20 drops per gallon is actually suitable for *drinking*, so I'm not worried about a few drops in my cooler melt water. ...

Quantumleap, Just a second vote that you won't need a 55 gal drum and it would be impossible to lift or load without equipment anyway. Take a couple 5 gallon containers or a few smaller drums that you can actually handle. Melted cooler ice works great in a swamp cooler as long as you keep it clean a...

Thanks, awesome tips. I really like the foot-pump idea, has anyone had the Health Inspector ding you, o...
