Re: HexaYurts
Backup plan is : more tape. I hear ya! I've decided to go with Camp Danger mitered door, with a side hinge and magnets to latch. It's bound to work fine... first time... with absolutely no trouble :? Where are you guys gonna be on the playa? I'd like to swing by and say thanks for all the advice in...

Re: HexaYurts
sounds good on your rebar and rope. I've never candy cained but drive my rebar into the ground at a slight angle away from the yurt. Knots are always a mystery to me, i always seem to fuck it up and have to retie. but between my daughter and I we get it done. I'm planning to drive a piece of rebar ...

Re: HexaYurts
So, my first hexayurt build on the Playa is nearly here. I'm really looking forward to it, but pretty nervous too! I'm planning to get there at 6am ish on Monday, boards edged with foil and taped into two half roof sections, camp danger style, and 3 2-panel wall sections. However, for various reason...

Re: HexaYurts
I posted something a few pages back about transporting the yurt. We rent a big truck for bm but at an earlier music festival this year we took the yurt on top of our land cruiser. We bought a big roll of shrink wrap and wrapped it several times long ways and short ways, with the roof pieces in the ...

Re: HexaYurts
My plans for transport... to add stiffness I've got a sheet of 1/2" CDX ply for the bottom, and a thinner piece of hardboard for the top just to protect the surface. I'll tightly wrap the whole package in a 16' x 20' tarp and ratchet it down to the roof rack (Ford Focus Wagon). Does this sound ok? I...

Re: HexaYurts
I ordered the tape and picked up the boards yesterday, so I guess it's full steam ahead now then!! Nashua 2.83" extreme weather foil tape was less than 5 bucks a pop for 50 yds. Besides being better, it was also cheaper than using Gorilla tape.

Re: HexaYurts
So, you reckon it would be ok to use gorilla tape for the cut edges, and bi-fil to join the boards? The ONLY yurts I've hard of blowing apart and away in the wind where held together with duct tape. Either the tape simply didn't stick enough or the stickiness gave way in the heat. All duct tape is ...

Re: HexaYurts
jkisha, this doesn't say anything about being foil backed... that's what I've been searching for. Does that matter? Sorry if I'm being a dumb ass, just don't want to buy the wrong thing and cook my wife.
Thanks for the heads up on duct tape... same for gorilla tape?

Re: HexaYurts
That's tremendous help!! Thanks for the feedback. I've seen that people use aluminum tape for the edges. Is the necessary? I'd like to keep costs as low as possible. I'm thinking about 3" duct tape for the edges (prepared at home before leaving for the burn), and the bi-filament only to join the boa...

Where do I buy the materials??
I've only recently been introduced to the hexayurt. What a fantastic design!! I REALLY want to build one for this (my first) burn. I'm reading through the forum, but there's quite a lot of detailed info to wade through. Given that time is short I thought I'd ask directly because I don't want to miss...

Re: bell tent or kodiak/springbar
True, true. All valid points, but... You will taste the dust regardless of what you do. Adapt to your environment: don't fight it, embrace it. Store things that need to remain dust free in appropriate containers. Lift the skirt and stay cool while comfortably sleeping off the previous night's excess...

Re: bell tent or kodiak/springbar
If you can live with the guy lines, definitely get the Bell tent (one with an attachable/detachable ground sheet). It WILL withstand anything that the Kodiac or Springbar can, and IMO the ability to lift the skirt counts for sooooo much in the sweltering heat.
