Re: Attaching fairy lights to bike
Those things are rugged. Great for bike tubing. I don't think you need to wrap the actual wire in tape. The failure point for these is actually at the battery pack connection. The last 6 inches leading up to the battery pack and on/off switch is not lit. Typically these hang loose, which leads to t...

Re: Attaching fairy lights to bike
Yeah, fairy lights are pretty durable for what they are. Better than EL wire, and cheaper too. Just zip-tie it to your bike enough to prevent areas where they could get snagged. You could even pallet-wrap them to your bike if you're so inclined (I might try this this year). If you haven't already, ...

If you can, wait until on playa to wrap it. Bike carriers and the beds of trucks tend to rip the stuff up.
that is a good idea! thanks

Attaching fairy lights to bike
I am going to be using the following lights for my bike setup: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01765H36U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These have a pretty thin wire that runs along the lights. Its like 24 gauge wire (or thereabouts), so pretty thin stuff. I am going to wrap it ar...

Re: Staking/securing a rounded carport
There is one misconception about wind: it does not push that hard, it mainly sucks. The overall shape of the carport creates an accelerated flow and low pressure above the structure. I can not see a clear enough image of the carport to make out if the "X tie downs" are structural enough t...

Re: Staking/securing a rounded carport
What you need is solid anchoring in multiple directions and at the feet. Whether or not that happens inside vs. outside the carport really doesn't matter all that much. In my experience, the in-ine Xs (along with cross-bracing at the ends) works just fine on Costco-style carports, so I see no reaso...

Staking/securing a rounded carport
Here is the carport that I bought: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/shelterlogic-round-grey-car-shelter-10-x-20-ft-0376638p.html#srp I have seen lots of posts regarding securing a "squared off" carport, where you have access to the vertical struts that attach to the legs of the carport. H...

Re: Monkey Hut question
I am really interested in making a monkey hut this year, and were talking to some guys at work. They suggested that I check out the portable garage kits that are fairly widely available. I found this one that has a pretty good price: https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=277&t=57838&...

Re: Off chance somebody is watching the Michigan v Florida game, on Sept 2
I'm wondering if there is anybody who is a big NCAA football fan, who also happens to somehow have access to a satellite TV, who ALSO happens to be planning on watching the Michigan v Florida game on the afternoon of Sept 2nd? Ridiculous long shot I realize, but I'm a pretty big Michigan fan, so th...

Re: crazy question i know: michigan vs alabama game?
I suggest a spectator area so people can watch someone watching the game on the playa. It would probably draw a crowd as performance art. hahaha, that's actually a pretty funny idea.... "come one come all! watch this guy ignore the 50,000 festival-goers and watch a football game all by his lon...

Re: crazy question i know: michigan vs alabama game?
I'm just checking to see if anybody else is already doing it. Why re-invent the wheel? I probably *could* do it, though it would be difficult since I'm Canadian and don't have access to the same satellites that the US folks do, but if somebody else is already doing it.... well, you get the idea.
