Re: cooling your tent or van

Now if I could just figure out why the 12V pump I bought to replace my likely to burn up HF pump is making so much noise I would be golden. You may need to prime your pump by sucking some water up the tube before plugging it in. Sometimes those 12v pumps get an air bubble trapped in the pump and th...

Re: cooling your tent or van

fig. i'm almost ready to roll but had siliconed my 4 inch septic line connector to the lid a few days ago and it just popped off. what do you use to "goop" yours on so it stays put? and do you apply it once you've got the fan attached (i don't want to take the fan off but will if the goop...

Re: rideshare from SF to Reno for Monday Early Arrival

Thank you everyone. I am now crystal clear on when will call opens (Wed 8/21 at noon). :D
The answer to the FAQ should be amended to be crystal clear as well.

Re: rideshare from SF to Reno for Monday Early Arrival

Many thanks Just Joe. I skipped the calendar and went straight to the FAQ. Duh. The FAQ/Answer could be written more straightforward. According to my theme camp administrator, the paper ticket language is not on this year's EA (but maybe the fine print did not get read). I have not seen the actual E...

Re: rideshare from SF to Reno for Monday Early Arrival

I know it's stating the obvious, but any potential rideshares will need to have their own early arrival pass, dated for August 18 (or earlier). They will also need to have physical tickets in-hand (not will call, since the box office will not open until Wednesday 8/21 at noon). Trilobyte, Where is ...

Re: Mesh on my tent

This has been a very helpful thread for me. Thanks to everyone for the clamps idea and to DoctorIKnow for the specific clamps, Figjam for the quick connects, and to Geospyder for the superstructure to reinforce flimsy tent poles. Naively, I feel like a secure Burgin.

Re: cooling your tent or van

I think it will be fine, but I would find a way to run some staps to hold the top and bottom together. Maybe some bungees. Are you thinking the wind might try to take the whole thing apart? Good point!! I may put some dynamic rigging between the top and bottom. Bulky bungees might have a tendency t...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Figjam, it looks like the same stuff, but the Costco price here is 1/2 of the HD price. Also, it takes less than 1/2 a box to make the cooler. Since I have been slowly installing these in my gutters anyway, I will use the rest of the box at home. Canoe, I will post how it works on the playa. I know ...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Here is a variation on Figjam's bucket swamp cooler. The main difference is that I used Rainfilter gutter guards as my evaporative medium. Costco sells this. image.jpg I cut them to a set length, then stacked stacked and glued/calked them to roughly form 2 half circles. I tied the 2 half circles tog...

Re: Mesh on my tent

Thanks Geospyder! My tent is very similar to yours. Although it will be under a shade structure, I was worried about my flimsy, aging poles. Great idea. I think I can make it work!

Re: Mesh on my tent

[quote="geospyder"] The PVC is also staked to the ground with Playa Staples. The tent poles and the PVC are tie wrapped together.

How do you attach your PVC reinforcement to your Playa Staples?

Re: cooling your tent or van

Question for figjam and others knowledgeable about the bucket swamp cooler: I just got this pump: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002PBWIR0/ref=pe_309540_26725410_item It is very quiet and rated at .5amp (6w). I tested it at 12v, pumping up a 23 inch high, 1/4" id tube. It pumped 48 gallons per hour....

Re: cooling your tent or van

I picked up a costco 115 ah battery today. Should I put my motorcycle 12V trickle charge on it and leave it on until its time to travel to the burn? Is that proper maintenance?
