Number one: Congratulations to all those who got placement! And a big shout-out to the Placement-folk, whom I hope are getting some much-deserved sleep right about now. You guys ROCK!!! Number B: I'm moist with delight to announce that INEBRIATION NATION has received official placement at 3:00 and t...

Re: Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!
I agree with everything you said: • No tiers (still keeping low-income/scholarship program) • $375/ticket (although I would say $350; very slight difference) And to add in a couple of things, I predict: • General Open Sale date: January 16th, 10am PST • Names on tickets with ID required to enter Tha...

Awesome. I know they've used it for the last 2 or 3 years, but wasn't sure if it was a "done deal," so to speak. I assumed it was, but you know how that goes.theCryptofishist wrote: I'm pretty sure that they are way ahead of you on that.

Re: Street Name Predictions for 2013
This year could go a few different ways... I like Simon's list of religious figures. I'm thinking if it's not that, it might be items related to Cargo Cults in general, maybe shipping terminology mixed with vague allusions to religious practices. So here's my shot (last year I sucked; I think I got ...

Re: 2013 Theme - Cargo Cult - thoughts?
I'll pile on with the agreement--at first blush, this looks incredibly promising, and might be one of the best themes I'm ever seen. It can be interpreted so many different ways... after reading about the actual Cargo Cults, I can see the theme as the intersection between religion and consumerism (A...

Re: HEY BURNERS: Three easy steps for Ticket Holder Verifica
How about this, we'll fingerprint every one of us, then do a pupil and voice recognition. Then next, a DNA sample. That should keep the scalpers at bay and everyone who's not a burner or burgin cannot penetrate, assimilate or permeate into our community! Nes pa?? Will they take my sock? For the DNA...

Re: HEY BURNERS: Three easy steps for Ticket Holder Verifica
Bitching = "OMG this is teh suxxors! No more Burning Man!! Lottery blows!!!" = Absence of ideas. Not bitching = "Here's how I think this thing can be fixed." = Proposal of idea. OP isn't "bitching" by any definition, sorry. I agree we're awash with "how to fix" posts, but at least this person put so...

Re: Yet another possible solution (LOOONG post)
The point of tiered pricing is not to reward early purchases, it's to provide a sort of 'honor system' method to allow those with greater means to help out those with less. Before the current financial crisis, a lot of people in the burner community were under-employed or just plain barely making e...

Re: Yet another possible solution (LOOONG post)
I like your well thought out arguement. As a 13 year Burner I've always kinda enjoyed the stress and effort to try and get that first tier ticket (it still takes WAY less time than actually getting a theme camp hauled up there), but it always does have server problems. It seems the point of the lot...

Re: OUTRAGE OVER THE LOTTERY!
I have to side with the people that DON'T think it's a money grab... they won't make any more money off this method than they would any other way. I think they were just trying to come up with the simplest idea that would solve last year's problems. That being said, I also think they should have rel...

Re: Yet another possible solution (LOOONG post)
The ticket selling systems are not owned by Burning Man!! About 15 people have suggested a process similar to what you are describing. Anyone who suggests that people will need photo ID at the gate, along with a ticket, simply has no idea what that will do to the entry times. People barely can find...

[DISCLAIMER: This post is a honker. I tend to write long, and I like to "show my work," as it were. Sit, relax, have some coffee. Film camps (campy films?)
Tikiplex-12 will be back again this year with its combination Tiki bar/movie theater (the "12" comes from showing 12 movies, just not all at the same time). We have a projector with a smaller screen, something like 82". We're primarily looking at 60s and 70s psychedelic/beach/grindhouse/b-movie fare...

I can't make it this year either, so I've been scouring the web trying to find a feed. Thus far, this is the only one I've found: http://www.ustream.tv/burningman I think they're in testing phase at the moment; I keep seeing a lot of shaky-cam and people slinging cables around. I'm hoping it'll stab...

I gotta call "prank" on this one: A) First post B) Gifting 10,000 phones costs some serious $$$. Unless, of course, it's a corporate sponsorship, which opens up a whole 'nother can of worms... C) Apparently, there's service on the playa now anyway. If this is indeed true, it would be the worst timin...

If you're looking for something printable, I haven't found anything either. However, check this thread: http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=30072 There's a Java-based map-o-the-camps there. Have you ever wanted to be a Zombie while drinking a Zombie which was served to you by another Zombie while watching a movie about Zombies? Well, now you can! So...we're still sitting here waiting for "The Hatted One" to make an appearance.
