I just gave up
I used to try to protect my turntables from the dust but have now given up the cause. I started off leaving them in my van and spinning from there, then a dome. Finally I ended up just sticking them under a tarp (for the rain) and leaving them otherwise exposed. The real problem I found is that anyt...

Has anybody with a medium scale sound system had luck with their placement? I guess it's possible that the first time we decided to register we just happened to get *really* unlucky. However, all of the camps around us with sound systems were being asked to turn it down. Actually, it worked out swee...

I cannot agree with you more, Ron. There should be a time and a place for all sound art including medium-scale sound art. But there isn't. To whit: A medium scale sound camp will not be able to be heard at 2 or 10 because of the enormousness of the rave camps there. A medium scale sound camp can't r...

Ah. I see. 200 watts over the allowable limit is acceptable. For a total of 800 watts being the allowable limit. Fair enough, I'll just drop the volume on my 1000 watt sound system to 8 out of 10 and be done with it. And don't expect me to turn my speakers inward, or block the sound, or agree to rea...

Our parties ranged from 3 to 500. 500 was the massive one. We gifted at least a thousand bucks worth of booze and food to the playa during these parties. Yeah, it was a serious freaking party the whole goddamn time. People had amazing times. Our djs and live musicians rocked their fucking nights. It...

Ranger Genious, your post discredits the 300w rule better than I ever could have. You stated that Animal Control had a greater than 300w sound system in an area designated as a non-noise zone. As such, they were an illegal sound camp. Rules are rules. And they are not meant to broken! Yet you applau...

Fight Club Camp?
Hey, I read in the info guide that there was a Fight Club camp this year. I was dying to check it out but never made it over there. Anyone involved with it or who visited it want to describe what was going on? Were these real bare knuckled brawls going on or was it like ThunderDome?

Yeah for this story! I was beginning to get all bummed about Bman until I read this and remembered why I love this damn place! Your posting makes me remember the wonderful helpful attitude of Black Rock City which is something that no other event or group of people or location has ever been able to ...

I’d be interested in hearing where you would draw that line, as regards to sound camps, and other modes of expression as well, when does one persons, or groups expression become so oppressive that it is antisocial? I realised I didn't answer Zulegoona's question, which is a good one. Perhaps it's t...

So djmattoc, After your rant. I'm sure you will not mind when I blow you out of the water. I will be using my talent to key the mike on my feed back squealer. It will work this way. Using the freedom you squawk about. I will ride to your sound area. Then key my mike and let it feed back through my ...

Re: just be fair
What I love about BurningMan the most is the fact that it means something different to everybody. Like for instance, some folks love the chance to follow rules laid out by an arbitrary governing body: Rules are rules. And boy are they fun to obey without questioning! Fuck talking about things, let's...

And did anybody notice how many people were talking loudly this year? Also I smelled a lot more cooking going on than in previous years. And was it just me or did people seem to be consuming more oxygen than seemed required? I came out to BurningMan to experience a completely prisitine desert unencu...

There seem to be two issues being argued here. One is people arguing that neighbouring sound camps should make an effort to equalize their noise levels so as not to drown out the other. This one is tricky. We are a sound camp with about 5k watts of sound which was silenced this year because of the c...

Name of band at SF decompression?
There was a band at decompression this year who were dressed as clowns. I believe they were at the 21st street stage, all the way down at the end. They migh have gone on around 7 or 8 or 9. The lead singer had a pair of mallets with which he'd hit a set of midi drums which would trigger various samp...
