Re: Sob story
I'm not seeing the "poor bashing" here. I just see a good question on how a person who qualified for a LIT can make so many international flights and other travel arrangements. Repeatedly.

Re: 12v and 120v power options
LOL, what the fuck is the switch labelled "EJECT"?! I need that one. When I was asked on the playa about it, I answered seriously...it ejects. It was fun to see the person smile, and then when they noticed I wasn't smiling, their smile faded, then tried to come back, then faded entirely as the sile...

Re: Playa Bike Locks (Is there a better solution?)
I'll go one step further...I ditched coiled locks entirely. I found them annoying and downright dangerous to use. As you tried to pull them through (and especially out of) your bike frame and/or wheel, they have a habit of recoiling back and and whacking you in the arm or even worse, the face. I use...

Re: 2015 Highlights.
CyanEssence's highlight made me remember one of ours. This was the first year we brought a mutant vehicle to the playa, a small-ish opium den car. I had many fears being a first time MV driver, namely something breaking or asshats jumping and annoying us. Despite my fears, everything worked flawless...

Re: Weird year.
I'll agree with the Captain on a couple of points. I've gone to BM in a huge Moroccan tent, an RV and most recently hexayurts. As I sat there in the hexayurt, loving the design and authenticity of it, I knew I would be happier this year in our trailer RV. Maybe it was weather, maybe it was my age, m...

You may come back to your bike to find your trike drilled a lag bolt through a hippies foot as he was standing there admiring your ride. Funny/not funny.
Re: Trash
I've got a different take on this. The $5 per bag thing is cool, but I'm usually so exhausted during exodus and so focused on leaving that I know I'll never stop the 30 seconds it takes to drop it off. Hell, I barely want to stop to pee on my way back to defaultia. This means I am accepting the fact...

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
Posted our mutant vehicle on Craigslist. Spent 9 months building it so we could enjoy it for 5 days. Hmm....yep, that sounds about right. That's Burning Man for ya. :D Also in a rare change of typical "One Item A Day" plans, I am not adding things to my 2016 BM prep list, but removing. No more playa...

Re: VIP makes me sad for them.
I agree, each year it becomes more obvious, but this year I "looked for it less" and went about my shenanigans. You know, this isn't a bad idea. Yeah, it's a little like sticking your head in the sand, but it just might get me through a few more burns. I realized that I think I was "looking" for it...

Re: So, how dusty was it?
This was a couple streets behind us. Scaffolding came crashing down in the winds on top of the neighbor's tent, yurt, shade structure and Jeep Cherokee. You can see the remains of the hexyurt at the bottom of the pic. Fortunately, no one was inside any of those structures and no one was hurt. Very s...

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...
For the grommets, securing with bungee balls will help it flex in the wind and be less likely to rip out the grommets. This was odd. I had three bungee balls fail on my shade structure this year. Which isn't that unusual. What WAS unusual is all three failed on the days it was dead calm. Not a sing...

I am still muddling through some less than enthusiastic thoughts about this year's burn, but wanted to share one bright spot in this thread, since it was about 2015 being great. We have a fairly established neighborhood with the same people returning each year. (Which can make for a somewhat jaded b...

rators, compressors, tools, art cars, sound gear, etc. - then this much blowing dirt is expensive. It trashes your stuff and makes you say fuck this shit. x2. The one year I decide to "go big". Sheesh. Traded the RV for hexayurts, built an art car, expanded our camp size, outside showering, etc. An...

Re: Food/Drink: What worked - what didnt
In the throes of last minute of packing, I threw in some dehydrated food for whatever reason. We arrived on Saturday and immediately the winds hit us, causing us to take refuge crammed into the front of the cargo trailer, hungry and tired. We would basically have to unpack the entire trailer (includ...

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...
My use of lag bolts this year has been extended from just anchoring the shade structure. I used lag bolts to hold down our shower setup and our yurt guy lines. For me, it's become more about ease of use than a necessity to stand up to the winds. I can understand the hesitation if you don't already u...

Re: Stretched hexayurt: Internal frame a good idea?
You didn't happen to be located around 8:05 and J, were you? We watched someone else build an internal frame yurt on Sunday. By the end, I had serious yurt envy. The winds didn't even affect it (although the same was true for our traditional hexayurts as well), and it looked to be a solid structure....

I had everything dialed in, even remembered to order a replacement ink cartridge for our printer so the kids can print schoolwork while we are gone. I was feeling pretty good about myself. Then I realized...I never got the additional poles I need for our shade structure. Without them, it doesn't go ...

Damn it. It's the classic BM conundrum....I can't tell if he's being serious or it's a joke. Reminds me of last year when I saw a family of four walking through Center Camp. They were all dressed in polo shirts and well pressed madras-style shorts and pushing a stroller with a small child in it. I c...

Re: Can I use 2 batteries on a golf cart?
If you put in a battery cut-off switch, or can easily yank off a battery terminal, you could also disconnect the pair of 6Vs from the start battery if you just want to get the start battery charged back up quickly. I did something similar to this. I also have 2 Trojan 6 volts wired together, along ...

The best part is you don't need a MOOP bag, or even lunch.

For mosquitoes here, B Complex vitamins. Let them eat whoever didn't take them. When I was a kid, my best friend's dad was a pharmacist and he told me this same thing. Said it clogs the pores so the mosquitoes may land on you but aren't able to stick their proboscis through your skin. (Of course I ...
