Alternative Route
Hey All, Just a quick question about alternative routes. I've known a few folks to go around Pyramid Lake on the 445. It meets up to the 447 on the West side of Gerlach, avoiding Fernley, Nixon, Empire and Gerlach all together. It is improved gravel, but much less traveled and avoids most of the bac...

Re: 4:30 Neighborhood camps for 2012
Howdy all! Camp Cul-de-Sac has long called this neighborhood home. But, alas, my illustrious camp mates and husband are taking a year off! There will be no walk-by movie theater, no giant lounge-dome full of tired happy campers, no boob slaps to keep me awake... But I will be there! Mostly likely th...

Re: Covering tent mesh
When I was using tents I used muslin, either hot glued, safety pinned or velcroed to the tent. The pest tip I can give you is put the sheeting on the outside of the tent not on the inside, and always leave a some mesh uncovered to give your self some ventilation (like the door). I tried old sheets a...

Re: Hello from a 9 year noob!
Just say - "Hi, I'm Merc! Who the fuck are you?" Walk around and see what's going on. Go to the meet n greet. Not everyone on eplaya is an asshole. And there are far more lurkers than you might guess. You might meet some of them on playa. I have. Really, you'll do fine. Thanks much, gyre! I've been...

Re: Hello from a 9 year noob!
2005... Hmmmm, yeah I don't think much happened in camp other than the mailbox. I think we barely managed to get our camp shade up by Wednesday! LOL Well, I think L.A. from Memphis may be attending, Ron from LA/NYC and myself. Other than that, the Sac is either taking a break this year or fading int...

Re: HARDY Produce for the Playa?
I keep things like spinach, sliced cucumber, tomato and lots of other non-produce food stuffs in mason jars that I just toss in the cooler. They jingle around in the ice water, but nothing leaks or gets nasty.

Re: dealing with ice
The best coolers I've seen on the playa are Coleman Extreme series. I've modded it by putting a 5 gal bucket on one side. I also drilled holes at the top of the bucket line and installed dowels to keep the bucket in place. Wrap the whole bottom with Refletix and your set. I use the bucket for dry st...

Re: Camel bak, good or bad?
Yep, you bet! I have a 3L camelback. Would not trade it in for anything. More pockets than you can stuff all your lip balm in, plus all your other goodies. And weaving EL wire for visibility, hang your booze canteen off of. That pack is my best friend out there, the one thing that goes everywhere wi...

Re: Hello from a 9 year noob!
Awwwee, you are all wonderful! I'll look into orphan camp. Sounds like a good place! LOL Going pure solo is a rather attractive idea as well, just a bit more Bear Grylls than I may be prepared for. And Misfit, Hubby was founder of our camp, but there was some drama that was unpleasant and ended up p...

Hello from a 9 year noob!
Hello All! This will be a decade on the Playa for me! Yet, it is my first time here on ePlaya and this year will be my first time without my husband and without my camp. I will be going as a lone wolf! I've always had a loving group around me as I entered BRC and I'm getting some feelings of anxiety...
