Re: Can You See This Happening???

We're going to do it, having been stuck in the same situation last year.

Definitely starts with a "welcome to the city, how's it going" conversation and ends with either "well good luck" or "does that spot in our camp work" depending on the answers.

Reading that letter, I got the feeling that somehow they are not aware that their own actions have caused every problem they now face.

Despite being told exactly what would happen.

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC

Back to the point, though - the lead placer for the 4:30 sector recently stated on FB that their belief is that the new geometry will open more blocks up for open camping, because they will be able to pack more theme camps into the inner (and now deeper) streets. While at the same time drawing a fu...

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC

Open camping was almost completely full after Sunday last year. We came in late and there was a sign after Greeters saying that anything 6:00 and up was completely full, don't even try it. We turned right and spent hours driving up and down the streets and a few false starts before we found a spot d...

Reinforce the roof, add small wheels to it, and make it drive around the playa upside down with all passengers forced to hang from five-point harnesses, and you'd still probably have trouble getting it approved these days. If that helps set the bar.

Re: Should I go for presale?

The most reliable way to get tickets to Burning Man is to be a hard worker, good at something, and be willing to share that with others. Then become an essential part of a group project. Nobody cares if Joe Rando can't make it to Burning Man and doesn't get to see Skrillex fight in the Thunderdome. ...

Re: Patent for Teledildonics Expires After 20 Years

Well, I spoke to one of the creators of Project Flashlight out on the playa last burn. I got to control a military grade spotlight on the other side of the playa using a tablet. For me, that was right in the G spot.

Re: Ideating a meal prep service for BM 2019

I could afford a meal prep service and have excellent experience-based feedback on what foods taste great out there, are easy to heat up, and handle well in a cooler.

But fuck your burn, I'm not telling you and out of spite I'm just going to eat pickles, cheese balls, and canned chili this year.

Oh my goodness. No. Hell no. 2000 miles one way in a U-Haul. Did you realize that the mileage rate is something like 89 cents per mile? Are you prepared to pay $3600 round trip, on top of the rental fees and gas?

Re: Burning Man fails 'Leave No Trace' inspection, has to go back to Black Rock Desert for more cleanup

Sounds more like facts leading into an assumption. Yes, the BLM found amounts of MOOP they didn't like at certain locations. Yes, they told BMORG to go back out there in the spring and do more moop sweeps. No, this doesn't mean the inspection failed in toto (though certain areas gave BLM some concer...

The only way to guarantee having an awesome experience when you go out is to be the one causing the experience to happen. Person A: walks around, looks at art, chats a bit with people also walking around looking at art, goes to a sound camp, doesn't like the music, goes to deep playa, gets cold, wan...

Even if you select 1” emt, which is fine for 10’ lengths, 60’ x 100’ grid is ~ 200 sticks of 10’ conduit.
It's also about 2100 pounds of metal for the conduit. Then you add in all the fittings, rebar, and tarps. It's a heavy duty trailer load or half of a large rental van all by itself.

Re: Conduit. Let's come to a decision.

My main question at this point is, are approximately 20’ spans between uprights doable/feasible? We’re thinking about using 10' lengths of top rail/conduit as well as 20’ x 20’ tarps for the roof, with cross canopy fittings
Hell no.

Re: Feasibility of Window AC for RV?

You could take a window unit and build a box that fits over the roof hole and the unit hangs outside the board. Of course this is super inconvenient. You could also think outside the box and realize that for your beat up Burner van, why limit yourself to existing side panel windows? Cut a hole anywh...

Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

I see a lot of MVs where everyone has worked together to gift rides to as many people as possible. Specifically, clothes are bulky and take up extra room that could be used for another rider instead, so a lot of the passengers are women who have sacrificed much of their clothing for the cause.

Some might point out that Baker Beach was easy, but really...I think Burning Man only found its soul when it moved to the desert. So yes, it's supposed to be hard, and that's what drew most of us to the event. I can easily go three months in the default world without feeling angry, sad, hungry, lone...

I'm still taken aback by the assumption that, if you disagree with the way Big Imagination handled things, you must not build or bring anything to the playa. A lot of problems these days are rooted in some groups rejecting internal criticism and trying to eject dissenters rather than to self-examine...

Most of the stuff at Burning Man is what happens when the preschool macaroni artist grew up and bought a welder. It's not a very high bar and nobody really wants to raise it, because fun art is better than serious art. The bars for inclusivity, self-reliance, not being a burden on the community, not...

It looks like it has more leverage than a normal speed wrench, but you probably don't need more leverage. I used a T-wrench and 30" extension this year, instead of bringing power tools. It was so easy to screw them into the playa that it was boring. A regular speed wrench would have done the trick. ...

Look up voice tech that is not cloud dependent if you choose to go down this path. Snips is an example of standalone voice AI.
I've experienced a Snips setup, it is what you want. They are designing it specifically for applications that won't or can't use a cloud-hosted service.
