Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..

I started a big batch (gallon and a half) of Limoncello! It'll be ready to bottle next week! I've also been practicing making fruit shrubs (drinking vinegars), and plan to buy a soda stream on payday....... between those things, and some cucumber/lemon/mint water that I will freeze pre-playa, I will...

Re: What worked - what didnt

PS: hanging the closet pole from the rafters with rope allows it to sway with the winds. I use additional 1" x 10' emt conduit over rebar posts to strengthen the windward wall of the 18 x 20.... we also park our truck behind that as a wind block. You can set the charger for your solar string lights ...

Re: What worked - what didnt

My house was an 18 x 20 carport, carpeted, etc... we have a window wall on the outside, and I use mesh with tapestry for the wall that faces towards the rest of our camp (Living room, etc.)... We bring a 6' closet pole and hang it from the cross-rafters, skinny side to the prevailing winds. We broug...

Re: What worked - what didnt

shower head/long nozzle..... and I repeat, 'it just worked better that way!'

PS: I brought enough of those big towels so that my personal family all had their own color... that was a good plan too.... personal responsibility, and no one else sitting on my towel.......

Re: What worked - what didnt

I brought a propane water heater with a battery powered pump, deep cycle battery etc... did not have time to test it before I left, and found on playa that the pump was not powerful enough to push the water through my hoses..... fortunately, I also brought a 2 gallon garden sprayer! That was pretty ...

Re: Gross medical question

Please make sure your doc knows that you will be in the sun, and that hopefully there is an antibiotic that does not make you too sensitive to the sun..... you may want to bring lightweight long sleeved cotton shirts anyway. I had a planned surgery when we got home last year (15 hours after we pulle...

Re: preparation stress

add tequila, it helps....... suddenly, mid-frenzy, it drops to resignation......... you will forget something important, and you will have way too much of some thing else.....whatever. Just do your best..... I was so grateful last weekend when even that resignation passed, and I was left with the kn...

Re: Rain on the Playa

gutter system between shade structures can be made with long enough, narrow pieces of heavy plastic, and held in place with large spring clamps..... I learned this AFTER our daughter's tent was flooded out at EarthDance, the last one at the BO Ranch. run the end off and away from camp. the gutters w...

Re: Last minute shade structure on a budget?

a chain automotive parts store, named along the line of peppy bros has 10 x 20 carport structures with a regular daily cost of $129, but can be had there for as low as $99........ they are easy to set up, but, they need longer stakes for the ground and to be guyed out, and held down with rebar stake...

Re: do not forget to poop!

we found last year that we pooped better in the portos than we do at home... so much so, it was the topic of conversation in our house for a bit..... and we still reminisce..... we think it was the conscious drinking of extra water [START NOW] and all the riding around we did........ I have not been...

Re: radical self-reliance

.. and it took two of us to set up the 18 x 20, and a different helper to set up the 10 x 20, though I've done it alone.....I am the one who loads the truck and utility trailer, the one who plans, procures, packs, and even purges our things.....I need to learn a new trick though, how to be there, se...

Re: radical self-reliance

I hope the original poster got enough of an answer to use towards their own radical self-reliance..... my first burn, 2012, I bought and brought an 18 x 20, and 10 x 20 carport structures, plus a pink parachute, and some 10' pieces of 1" emt conduit.... so, I ended up with a 20 x 48' shaded, carpete...

Re: Pee Jugs?

my simple solution is to use an empty kitty litter jug with screw cap, INSIDE of a 5 gallon kitty litter bucket, and a funnel. The jug sits inside of the bucket, and the funnel sits on the plastic trash bag that also holds the used toilet paper...... my kind husband takes the jug to the portos in th...

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You

Let me try this again..... I clicked the wrong buttons yesterday and lost my note. So,my husband David and I live in Sacramento, and have been been thinking about going to the Playa for the last dozen years, but weren't quite ready yet... until we had one more loss than we could bear. We decided las...
