Re: Tips for Shy People at Burning Man
From my own first burn last year, I seemed to notice very few naked doods waltzing around. None of the guys in my camp got naked (except to shower) but all of the girls did, and I saw plenty of topless women around the city as well. I really don't think he needs to get naked to have the time of his ...

Re: Chest freezer?
We also brought a full sized chest freezer, left it in the Penske truck and just had to hooked up to the generator so whenever the generator was running it was on, probably about 12 hours a day. We also had blankets over it to help insulate it and everything stayed perfectly frozen the whole time, n...

Re: How to spot undercover cops?
OP here. I was a little surprised to see this pop back up in the "View your posts" section. I took a pretty good razzing when I first posted this last year, but I had never been to Burning Man before and believe it or not I actually learned a lot from the replies I got in this thread. My original in...

Jungle smacks do you mind sharing how you split yours into channels? Did you use a controller or make one yourself? Also where do you guys prefer to buy your LED's? I've always used superbright or oznium but if you have a better suggestion please let me know- I've been getting mine from ebay. Got t...

Re: Opulent Temple 2013
As a first timer last year, I thought Opulent Temple was simply awesome and was the sort of thing I had hoped to experience at Burning Man. For me personally, I can't imagine wanting to take a year off from BM but then again I haven't been going for a decade straight...

Re: Battery Question for Lighting Costume
Lots of good info in this thread, thanks everyone. I am also agreeing that AA's are the way to go for my smaller pieces, if nothing else than for the simple reason of ease of replacement (or procuring replacements if you're unprepared on the playa). However, AA's (as noted in this thread) are good f...

Re: Battery Question for Lighting Costume
Remember that large quantities of LEDs can provide a striking effect even when they're running at 20% or even 10% of their maximum brightness. I suppose you can't exactly do that with your pre-built controller, but it's something to think about. I put 114 RGB LEDs pixels on a hat, and if I ran it a...

Re: Battery Question for Lighting Costume
It's impossible for a 12AH battery to run a 6A strip at full brightness for 6 hours. If, on average, only one color was on at a time or there was fading or blinking involved, then it would be possible. Yes I should have been more specific, I had it on color fading mode. After all, full brightness o...

Re: Battery Question for Lighting Costume
Thanks for the tips guys. I looked into those shorai 12 lifepo4 batteries, and yes they are lightweight and have crazy aH ratings but they are also expensive! They seem to run about 5 times the cost of a similar SLA battery, which is more than I want to spend on a battery that could very easily end ...

Re: Going Alone...
For me personally, I wouldn't want to go alone. I enjoyed having people I know to talk with and share experiences together, and when I wanted to do my own exploring I could do that too. It's nice to have someone you can rely on to take care of you or recognize when you're in trouble whereas someone ...

Re: Tips for Shy People at Burning Man
Last year was my first year at Burning Man and it really opened me up. My advice is just to let your guard down and accept the fact that you're not longer on planet Earth but on planet Burning Man where everyone loves you and wants to talk with you and be your friend. It sounds corny but that was my...

Re: Battery Question for Lighting Costume
A "mess" of LEDs can mean different things. How many amps/voltage etc. do you need for it? You could use RC NiMH battery packs, or some LiPo battery packs, or those SLAs mentioned above. I'd avoid alkaline batteries if you have somewhat high current draw, as their lifetime is shorted dramatically b...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights
Small blinky lights are handy to have to give to darkwads, they're cheap and last a long time. I prefer slow pulsing and color changing and fading lights but blinky lights don't bother me.

Re: Battery Question for Lighting Costume
Probably pick up a SLA battery off of ebay. I got a 12ah 12v SLA battery from ebay.com for 25 bucks free shipping, it weighs maybe 7 or 8 lbs but it's relatively small, could put it on a utility belt if needed. I also got a 5ah SLA battery that is half the size and weighs maybe 3 or 4 lbs that could...

What about radical inclusion? I agree that the feathers are too much, but to be jealous that some people can afford to fly in and have nice RVs is a little bit silly. Re: Police Using Entrapment
Had a guy come into our camp mid-day, specifically looking for me (he must have seen my thread about spotting undercover cops because I'd never seen him before) and the second sentence out of his mouth was "Hey I'm looking to score some reefer". Huh? What's that? I can get you a drink? "No, man I ne...

Re: Newbies
In our camp of 12 burners, 7 of us were newbies. Nearly every veteran I met seemed surprised to hear that I was a virgin burner. I have been listening to my sister talk about BM for three years though so I had somewhat of a clue, even though mere words can't describe BM. I did meet lots of "newbies"...

All praise be to Lowz! I really need to bookmark the full version of that map. The last time I saw that version was actually on the Playa; ESD has one with that level of detail. Playa Info also surely does. Only Placement's version can be any better (because it's got any last-minute changes on it)....

Re: 2:00 & 10:00 Neighborhood camps for 2012
Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out the name of the camp that was located at 10:00 and F, they had the really cool lasers that covered the sky at night. We tried looking at the moop map but the resolution is too low to make out the letters. Thanks for any help!
