How about this Tent/shelter canopy combo?

I imagine it is small, but for someone with limited space looking for both a tent and shade, I wonder if this will suffice for 4 days?

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

I think where I'm torn as much as anything is in considering that what I may bring as shade structure might end up not only being a waste (if it is insufficient or not set up properly) but, in fact, become a danger to others. I might drop a couple hundred bucks on gear and get out there and the thin...

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

Think I might just do what you did last time. I'm going to run to REI and Home Depot in the next day or two and just want to make sure I get everything I need via an itemized list. The only challenge is I don't currently have any place to practice setting it up, unless I go to a public park. I'm goi...

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

Reading through linked threads. Fantastic ideas. But, given my time constraints, lack of savvy in regards to putting things together, and strict restrictions on what I can bring on burner express, I'm really not sure what my best route will be. Quite simply, I'm not going to try to begin the process...

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

OK, so I'm looking at shade structures. Thought I found some decent options, but, reading some threads here, it looks like many of those end up getting eaten alive by the winds. So, I need something that can be carried on the burner express bus, be set up by one person who is not super savvy at this...

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

I plan on spending almost all of my time roaming away from my tent location. Could I get away with a larger tent as my shade structure? Some have said go small on tents but build a shade structure as well. I have a couple friends building a 30 X 30 structure, which sounds awesome but impossible for ...

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

I really appreciate the tips! I am the ultimate minimalist, so I'm just concerned with survival and basic health. Looks like shade should be more of a priority than it has been. On food, what do you guys think about Quest protein bars? I eat those all day long now. Actually leave a box in my car in ...

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

Thanks guys, good feedback already. I'm a unique combination of loner and social butterfly. I am comfortable alone, and also feel comfortable talking to anyone. I have several friends going, but I'm not super close to any of them. They may all welcome me, but I hate asking them. It's pretty much imp...

Re: First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

I certainly may join them, but it seems smart to be prepared in case I can't find them. Not sure how difficult it is to find people who are already there before you arrive in BRC. They don't have an exact placement yet.

First-timer, coming in Thursday solo

I just found a ticket today. I'm very busy reading and researching so I am prepared and am not relying on anyone else to take care of me. I do have friends who will be there. But, due to just getting a ticket today and not arriving until Thursday, my plan is to be prepared to camp solo. I'd prefer t...

Re: "If you are meant to be at Burning Man, it will happen..

Everything said above makes sense. I am a bit turned off by many of the almost cryptic remarks that indicate getting a ticket is basically a guarantee...for the people deemed worthy or cool enough. Given so many well-intentioned people face what seems like a crap shoot at best. It does give the appe...

"If you are meant to be at Burning Man, it will happen.."

I try to read through the lines as to exactly what this means. I am pretty sure it is not really some sort of supernatural reference, like a horoscope lol. It seems to me that there are "gatekeepers", people with access to fairly large numbers of tickets to distribute who are judging others as to wh...

Re: Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

Friends arranged a while ago to go. I don't usually go on adventures with them. They did offer to get my car detailed after.

Agree about getting the most out of a car. But, I need it to last me a while. This trip would obviously shorten its life.

Re: Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

Thanks guys. I tend to be very minimalist and can survive on little and with little space/stuff. Of course, BM is an all new world for me. The ticket I was sold was a $390. I gave her $335 and told her I'd give her the last bit later. I don't know the girl I bought it from but friends I'm going with...

Re: Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

Thank you for making me feel better about my preparedness. Staying home sounds like the best bet for you. Should you decide to do this though, don't worry about being with a theme camp. Find a nice unreserved spot and plunk down. With no shade over your tent, you won't be spending much time in ther...

Re: Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

I've read the survivor's guide. Getting feedback with first hand experience obviously is invaluable. That tickets are going for far below face value is revealing. There was quite a storm when tickets went on sale months ago and were sold out. So, buy a tent, some thick stakes to secure it, 10 gallon...

Read the survival guide and first timers guide RIGHT NOW!!!

You can do this! 8)
Haha. I'll take that spot down in the bottom right corner. Ya know, the one with a lot of sand and dust around it. Gosh, that was easy 8)

Re: Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

Don't worry, you won't trash your car. At least, no more than the other 60,000 the particpants. LOL. Exactly. I mean, why should I care? It's only a brand new car that represents my only feasible way to get around to irrelevant places like work and the grocery store. If it gets trashed, irreparably...

Re: Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

I posted a reply and it got lost somehow. To make a long story short, yes, I am concerned that I am not prepared enough for this. We plan to leave Tuesday, so I have a few days to prepare. But, it seems daunting to say the least. My friends said they paid $200 each for whatever "accomodations" they ...

Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

I have some friends going who encouraged me to get a ticket a friend was selling, and I did. I then mentioned that I just purchased a new car that had some room and flexibility for storing stuff. I volunteered to drive my car. Then I started doing research. LOL. Given I just purchased this car, and ...
