Driving in from the North -- alt route from Cedarville?

For anyone with experience driving to BRC from the North -- Wondering if anyone has ever attempted to drive east on 299 past the junction for 447 and continued on to and taken Country Road 34 south to BRC. Looking at the map and thinking this route might allow us to miss the Gerlach-to-BRC traffic.....
