Aloha camp mates! This is such a cool idea Prof. Pickle! Thank you thank you thank you!!! I was having a not-so-good day today, mostly because I'm feeling a little bit under the weather but also because of that subtle feeling that only my mates here in Camp Envy can understand. 2011 was my first bur...

Re: Barbie Death Village Reno Hotel Deal 2013
I had a great stay at the Sands the night before I drove out to the playa! I won $55 off of my first $1 bet on a slot machine (betting 1 cent too), and I got a free Sierra Nevada. Needless to say I quit while I was ahead and went to the reservation counter and got myself a room - burner discount of ...

Re: Clueless Aussie - needs a ride or advice/guidance.
Hitchhiking is dangerous, so I don't recommend it. However, if you fly into Reno, NV and hang out at store where burners are congregating in the parking lot, it would be a statistical anomaly if you didn't find a ride. I always drive to Black Rock City, but for a lot of other events in Nevada and Ca...

Always be prepared to have respectful, yet firm and unwavering interactions with law enforcement officers - don't give in to intimidation and surrender your fourth amendment rights. Certainly not the most exciting/interesting piece of advice, but perhaps THE most important. ***EDIT: I see you're fro...

Re: Mesh on my tent
The trick is to dust-proof your belongings - not your tent. Put everything in heavy-duty reusable ziplock bags, and then put them in boxes or backpacks or what have you. I have a six-person mesh tent that I've used at BRC twice now. It gets pretty dusty in there but I just sleep wearing a soft banda...

Re: Dr. Dust's 'V' style Rebar Method- 10 steps to perfect V
I used rebar between 2 and 3 feet long, because I was a paranoid noob. I welded flat washers to the top to turn them into giant nails and pounded those suckers flush, to hold down a 6-man tent and a 20' monkeyhut. Of course, it didn't go anywhere (though there wasn't much wind in 2012). Getting the...

Re: Dr. Dust's 'V' style Rebar Method- 10 steps to perfect V
:) For whatever reason, vbar is the only rebar shape that gives me that " there's no fuckin' way this structure's gonna blow away " peace of mind, thus allowing me to have a carefree experience. I just know that shit ain't goin' nowhere, and it clears my head. I'm sure the other tried and true rebar...

Re: Best shelter for first-timer?
I absolutely love my REI Alcove Shelter. The poles go together like tent poles, and then you just secure the shade cover thing. It's a viable option for those who travel by plane because the whole thing fits in a small duffel bag, which is included. I've used it two years now, and I'm actually using...

Re: Dr. Dust's 'V' style Rebar Method- 10 steps to perfect V
If you are in a large camp or village, with lots of rebar to pull, you might want one of these instead http://www.wayfair.com/Tolman-Tool-Stake-Puller-SP-TTS1008.html Damn that looks really useful. Or, you can just get a long steel bar and pry the v-bar out of the ground. :D Seriously though, have ...

These look like they would work really well. You mentioned that they're more difficult to remove, do you think using a small bottle jack would help? Re: Dr. Dust's 'V' style Rebar Method- 10 steps to perfect V
How do you keep it from opening up the V when you pound it into the Playa? With each "leg" going in at an angle, they're going to want to keep that angle and as you get closer to full insertion, (yes, I said "full insertion") you're going to run into problems. It's simple. The force applied from ha...

Re: Dr. Dust's 'V' style Rebar Method- 10 steps to perfect V
Easiest to pound in, eh? You think it's easier than pounding in a single, straight piece of rebar? Granted most straight rebar is 1/2" instead of the 3/8" you're using, but with the angle of the bent rebar transferring your power sideways, I can't see it being easier to pound in. I've seen many dis...

Dr. Dust's 'V' style Rebar Method- 10 steps to perfect Vbar™
What is Vbar™, you ask..? 'V' shaped rebar is perhaps the most difficult to pull out of the ground, but it is by far the easiest to pound into the surface of the playa upon at set up. It's far more reliable and easier to deal with than Kandy Kane rebar, in my experience. 601060_552013014829985_1353...

Re: (4) 10x10 or (1) 20x20 Tarp?
pressure = force/area The wind pressure is a constant value, so if you multiply area by four, the force absorbed by the larger 20x20 tarp will be about FOUR TIMES greater than the force absorbed by a 10x10 tarp. One good dust storm will rip your rebar out of the ground if too much force is working a...
