Re: Of Cargo Cults and Reclaiming Culture

Thumbz, I am not sure I follow you most of the time, especially the mixed metaphors. ;) You might like Edward Abbey; look up his Desert Solitaire sometime. Oh. I use metaphors to simplify into something where the false high-ground is less obvious. The gist is that you never know if mixing something...

Re: Of Cargo Cults and Reclaiming Culture

I posted this thread somewhere else and someone mentioned Fraternities. I don't it's the best example, but I find it helpful. Perhaps the degree to which a sub culture changes is inversely proportional to how militant they are. And I saw it said a couple times to just let things be, but I'm a fighte...

Alright, but I think this discussions root is more of a philisophical/political question than one about the theme. At least, I hope it becomes such.

Re: Of Cargo Cults and Reclaiming Culture

I was actually referencing more a modern issue. Things like the internet forum scene, or the video game scene, or the electronic music scene are where I've been hit. It used to be all Digg, Counter Strike, Trance... all good. Now it's kind of Hate in forums, Hate in games, Hate in music type of deal...

Of Cargo Cults and Reclaiming Culture

I suppose this problem is much larger than Bman, but this is a good place for it's discussion, especially in terms of this years theme. How does a group of people reclaim their culture? I mean, first off I guess we'd have to say that there is one... which may or may not be against your view of playa...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights

I use lights in blink mode for the simple reason that the mode gives me much longer run-time. A crappy $1.20 light stick runs all night on 3 button cells when blinking, rather than a few hours. Otherwise I have no attachment to blinking lights. This is actually why I figured there were so many. I m...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights

... I explained my situation and told em fuck yer day, then came up with the idea of mounting auto headlights to my bike...pointed in every direction possible. Would probably need a trailer to carry the batteries necessary. Poetic terrorism? Still thinking on that. I think that would actually end u...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights

Even worse than a blinky light offender are the assholes on art cars with BRIGHT FUCKING WHITE LIGHTS ... This was kind of a dick move, but one of my first years I carried around a really bright LED flashlight for the port-o-poties. Whenever I saw someone with lights like that, I'd shine it straigh...

Scott yer kinda new here so I going to nice about this and clue you into a few things. A. Changing someones Quote by adding things to it is un-cool B. No one really gives a fuck who likes DubStep or Blinky Lights, 99% of us are adults that have lives outside of Burning Man, 'bout the only thing mos...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights

I did see some pretty cool looking Christmas light last time I was in the Wisconsin Dells-- they were somehow made so that the water flowed down them (they were banner-like somehow) in cascades of varying color. I have no idea what kind of power source is needed or anything. If I recall correctly, ...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights

Blinky lights are "bad behavior"? They may be. And it was more a hypothetical statement. As for painting inside the lines, I certainly hope the builders of the man/temple follow the blue prints as best they can. And when it comes to bringing food and water, I really do think it's best if most peopl...

Re: Hey I'm Scott

And someone will say, hatever man, burning man is about doing what you want. ("hatever" being a reference to larry) Pretty much the first response I got. It was about whether or not there is such thing as too many fast blinking lights. I totally think there is, and I totally think they take away fr...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights

"This may be what the folks on reddit were trying to get across. Do what *you* want to do." I want to make Burning Man a better experience, and my basis for what would make it better is based off what I would like to see. So instead of assuming this is what everyone wants, I'm asking. Besides, the i...

Re: About Small Blinky Lights

Oh yes, of course as primary concern, whatever works is grand. But as a secondary more aesthetics based concern, I'm just wondering what people generally think of small, fast blinking lights. More and more, though, I'm coming to the conclusion that this will be similar to what people think about peo...

About Small Blinky Lights

I don't really like blinky lights, and I kind of want to know if I'm the only one. Am I? Should it maybe be considered courtesy to not have lights blinking too quickly?

Hey I'm Scott

There was one topic in particular I wanted to discuss about Burningman, just to see if I'm the only one likes the idea for it. I tried bringing it up at at the Bman subreddit, but the only response I got was one guy saying "whatever man, burning man is about doing what you want," and so I gave up on...
